All-clear at Boston airport after package scare

[Updated at 2:39 p.m.] A security scare at Boston's Logan International Airport ended with an all-clear after the two bags that triggered the alert were found to be harmless, Massachusetts State Police said Tuesday afternoon.

[Updated at 1:45 p.m.] Massachusetts Port Authority spokesman Phil Orlandella tells CNN the evacuation was sparked by a canine unit getting a "hit" on two duffle bags.

The bags had not been loaded onto a plane, Orlandella said.

[Posted at 1:28 p.m.] The cargo building at Boston Logan International Airport has been evacuated as authorities investigate a suspicious package, Massachusetts Port Authority spokesman Phil Orlandella told CNN.

He would not say what about the package sparked suspicions. The cargo building is not near passenger terminals and airport operations are unaffected.

The Massachusetts State Police, State Bomb Squad, Boston Fire Department and Logan Fire Department are all responding to the investigation, Sgt. Matthew Murray of the Massachusetts State Police told CNN.

This story is developing. We'll bring you the latest information as soon as we get it.

I think it's time for profiling.
If I'm looking for a terrorist I think I can look by old white women, small caucasain children, crippled white people, all black Americans, all American Indians,...........
come to think of it,...we got attacked by foriegners didn't we,......duh.

I agree! That's why I'm super judgmental of every White man I see. Because, as we all know, that's what Timothy McVeigh was and he attacked our country.

Man, people are simple. Think: If by policy we "look by" all those types of people, who do you think terrorists will find to carry the weapons.

This is just garbage. I remember the good old days when the public servants took care of this type of think quietly so the general public is not alarmed. Now all they want to do is alarm the public. Just like having Bush in office again. Rule by fear.

I guess it's time to call "uncle" on this and remove all airport screening. Let the passengers screen each other. I'm sure there won't be any racial, age, or gender profiling then.
We should also open the carry-on baggage flood gates as well and allow any carry-on bag you want. As soon as the last passanger passes through the door, close the door and take off. Have an issue with someone elses bag hitting you in the head during turbulence, then take care of it yourself because there won't be any flight attendants on this flight. When the plane lands, the door opens and you get out – no need to thank the pilot for the nice flight because there are none since the plane was flown remotely.

The terrorists' goal isn't to kill us. No, their goal is to TERRORIZE. Killing a bunch of Americans is just a plus.

TSA is LETTING them win. Their giving us a reason to be afraid of the world and the people in it. And, at the same time, to fear our own government.

Ever heard "fake it 'till you make it"? How about we do that? At least for the sake of American pride.

What kind of "hit" does a canine get on duffel bags that are found to be harmless? My bet, is the "canine" in this case were the canine handlers who could read the baggage originating location and "assumed" something. They blow it all out of proportion to make a show how all the unnecessary extreme security measures are actually "working". See we stopped a possible non-terrorist threat that didn't actually exist in the first place. Don't you feel safer?
