U.S. warships head to Yellow Sea for war games

The USS George Washington sailed toward volatile waters off the Korean peninsula Wednesday for planned military exercises with South Korea in a show of force designed to deter a further escalation of hostilities with North Korea.

The exercises, defensive in nature and a more measured response than the retaliation initially urged by South Korea, could prove provocative after North Korea's shelling of a South Korean island Tuesday, the most serious act of hostility since the end of the Korean war.

The shelling of Yeonpyeong Island killed four people - including two civilians - and left an entire region fearful of an all-out war.

The north Koreans are detractors, I would not be changing war strategies because they woke up in the morning and decided to fart on the south Koreans. Seems like a test. Pulled the cover over the nose and go back to sleep! The yuck factor will dissipate.

We need to stop threatening and start to try diplomacy to settle these disputes. All this warmongering is getting quite repulsive!

It is just amazing that whenever there is a situation like this the US almost always has a planned military exercise in the area.

Daniel I've read your previous posts and think you "get it" much of the time, but some people you can't talk to. You can't stop Kim Jong Il by playing nice. You can't send Hillary into the Congo to stop the madness there. We can't even send food to the innocents because the bad guys intercept the shipments before they get there. There is no easy fix. We either ignore all the BS and listen to whiny people complain about America turning a blind eye, or we help the victims by eliminating their problematic dictator for them or helping them topple the dictators themselves. If you have another solution then what is it? Personally I'd like to see NK take a swipe at our navy.

To get another country whose name I cannot mention here because if I do my message will be blocked to mediate between the two Koreas and find a way out of this. That's my solution here.

Are we going to actually going to acknowledge that something happened? NK might think we actually have a spine.

I agree with captainobvious. No matter what we will have to either ignore the bs, or deal with the bs on a larger scale later down the road. We tried to stay out of ww2, but look where that got us. Being navy i have to say this to them, "give em hell!"
