Chicago police officer killed while processing crime scene

A Chicago police officer processing a burglary scene and another person were fatally shot Friday afternoon, police said.

The officer, an evidence technician, died at 2:30 p.m., one hour after the shootings, said Police Superintendent Jody Weis. Another man also died, Weis said, adding there was no information on a motive.

"The thought that someone can shoot and kill a police officer is unacceptable," Weis said. "We shall squeeze that neighborhood and we will find who did this."

The gunman is described as a black male wearing a gray thermal shirt, a blue vest and a gray skull cap, according to CNN affiliate WLS.

That is very sad! i feel very bad for the families of the police officer & the other victims. my thoughts & prayers go out to them. with things like this happening everyday in our society this is why i am grateful everyday that i have my family! we all need to be more appreciative of what we have & know that our loved ones can be taken from us anytime. so enjoy them while you can & tell em how much you really love & appreciate them.

Do you know how this statement sounds, shooting and killing an officer is unacceptable. Is it acceptable to shoot anyone that is not a cop?

The cop almost certainly killed for simply being a cop. People are rarely killed simply for not being a cop. Critical thought please.

I totally understand your concern regarding the above statement but the above story is not trying to say it's alright to kill civilians, shootings can happen between different gangs and criminals but as soon as they hear a police siren they get dispersed, but those who shot the officers who represent law and armed are directly challenging and stepping over all red lines knowing that this will start a rage by the police yet they are not bothered, so they have no redlines, so would they do to regular people people who are unarmed and have very limited or not skills at all on how to act in such situations.

Well put Robert.... I do not have anything against cops,my son is a cop but if the police reacted the same way when an ordinary citizen gets shot it may be a bit of a deterrent knowing they were going to come knocking down doors to get you

Maybe he was shot simply for being a cop. Then again, he may have been shot for being an evidence technician, which raises the question: What kind of evidence did somebody not want him to find, and who would it have implicated? Think about it, Watson...

Move out of Chicago, Detroit, and Rio de Janerio. They are beyond help. The powers that be... are reactive, not pro-active. Waited too long, to confront evil.

This is not meant to sound callous, but aren't cops glorified garbage men? Our politicians and leaders basically use crime enforcement as a way to clean up after a crime has been committed. They could choose to enact policies that would reduce drugs, poverty and violence, but choose to keep with the status quo. I blame our leaders just as much as I do the criminals.

"The thought that someone can shoot and kill a police officer is unacceptable,"

Oh, so that implies that it's acceptable to shoot and kill NON-cops? Like the unarmed black men in Oakland? Or the unarmed, cuffed, FACE-DOWN black kid in Fruitvale BART station? Was it acceptable to kill HIM because he wasn't a Police Officer?

I hear statements like this, and it's no wonder the majority of black communities hate cops.

Squeeze the neighborhood? How about "squeeze some more facts into this article"? The two that were shot died, so who saw the killer and was able to describe him? This article doesn't have enough information!

No my white brethren choose to hack up their wives and bury them under the garage concrete floor. Nice attempt at race baiting though. You get points for trying.

Selective memory perhaps, or just very convenient selection of which cases to remember.

No wonder the "terrorists" don't bother infiltrating our society to cause trouble for US. Even they couldn't do as good of a job messing this country up as we do. I'll bet they're jealous.

BLACK MALE....... OH WHAT A SURPRISE...

I GUESS SINCE WE CAN'T PROFILE. THE POLICE WILL WASTE THEIR TIME STOPPING WHITE MALES, WOMEN AND CHILDREN TOO?

    I DON'T THINK SO...

THAT IS WHY EVERY BLACK MALE FEARS THE POLICE.... UNFORTUNATE BUT ALSO VERY TRUE.....

SO SORRY BUT UNTIL YOUR BROTHERS STOP KILLING AND ROBING AND RAPING PEOPLE

GET READY TO BE STOPPED AT GUNPOINT

    CUZ YOU FIT THE DISCRIPTION

    • Ignorance is not bliss

      Nexus,
Are you really ignorant enough to suggest that only black people commit crimes, and should be subject to racial profiling while other races should not? You're kidding right? Sgt. Slaughter – your name alone reeks of trash. Speaks volumes...

papa John D: hmmm, that's funny, I've notice the exact opposite.

I wonder how often you people comment like this when the offender is white – or have you trained your small racist minds to only notice crimes committed by black people? Two innocent people were killed, and that is a travesty – regardless of the race of the victims or the offenders.
