FedEx searching for missing radioactive package

FedEx could learn Friday what happened to a package containing radioactive materials that went missing a day before.

The company said it is searching in the Tennessee area and that the item is safe as long as nobody tampers with the protective packaging around it.

The item is a cylinder containing rods used for hospital machinery that were being sent to a person in Knoxville, Tennessee, said Sandra Munoz, a company spokeswoman.

"The rods are used for quality control calibration," Munoz said. "We have lots of experience in handling this kind of shipment."

Munoz said the company may learn more Friday morning when two employees who handled the shipment return to work.

This could be the prelude to another massive terrorist attack and they are treating it like lost mail !!! Radioactive rods could be used to make a weapon of mass destruction, aka suitcase nuclear bomb. What is wrong with these people ?!! Why isn't Homeland Security scouring the country for this package ? I fear for all involved ! This would never happen if President Bush were still in the White House.

To lose a normal package is quite understandable

However, isn't a radioactve package marked clearly with a warning label and special handling instructions????

I don't think they can just say, "oops my bad." On this one

I went to school with a kid that went through apartment buildings to steal the smoke detectors for a mini nuke reactor or something he was building. I don't know how much time he got but his little experiment blew up in his face literally and he got radiation burns from it. If I were the feds I'd be checking that kid's whereabouts. So many weirdos on this planet.

Fedex, is a horrible company. Worst customer service I have ever met, and it doesn't seem they equip their drivers with the basic knowledge of how to read addresses. I had a package for my company numerous times not be delivered because they couldn't find the room....there was no room, the building has one entrance...and a receptionist who gets packages. It just shows that they are lazy, and their shipping facilities can't handle keeping track of packages.....never use fedex! We need to encourage people to ship through a more reliable, safe and secure shipping company.
