News outlets publish cables leaked by Wikileaks

Details of classified U.S. government documents leaked by whistleblower website WikiLeaks were published Sunday by four international news outlets.

No documents had been posted on WikiLeaks, which said via Twitter earlier Sunday that it was under cyber attack, when five newspapers - the New York Times, the Guardian in England, Le Monde in France, Der Spiegel in Germany and El Pais in Spain - put details from the leaked documents on their websites.

The United States had warned WikiLeaks editor-in-chief Julian Assange that publishing the papers would be illegal and endanger peoples' lives.

Earlier Sunday, Wikileaks tweeted that it was experiencing a distributed denial of service (DDOS) attack. That's an effort to make a website unavailable to users, normally by flooding it with requests for data.

Yes, let's trust the government to tell us whether we should hear about their wrong-doings.
They say that everytime; grow up!

Gee, repeat what you hear much? Can you even piece together support for such a claim? Ya right, WL is risking lives, when the original operations being revealed didnt?

As if The West pushing for empirical expansion doesn't risk lives? WL is merely showing the world data relating to events that have already HAPPENED...usually events that RISKED LIVES. Yet gullible Americans are tricked into repeating the same phrases over and over again without realizing just how stupid it sounds. It's the same as saying:

"If you tell the world what we did here today, somebody might get hurt!"

Someone already did...LOTS of someones. At least WL has the balls to challenge the emperial West. Too bad the FauxNews drones don't realize that dissent, and forced Gov't transparency are the only things that will SAVE this country. Everytime WL is about to release something, Conservative America freaks out and starts ranting about RISK. Then, nothing happens, everyone goes quiet, until WL has something to release again.

Wake Up!! The American Gov't is AFRAID of WL, and it gets it's most stupid, wanna be patriots to start parroting for them. It's obvious, stupid and a huge insult to ANYONE that goes around saying the WL is risking lives.

Oh come on !!!!!!!!! If the Gov really wanted to shut them down, the entire group would have been taken in by U S Marshall and put on the (MERRY GO ROUND) .

Our government has been nice enough already. This goes WAY too far. This guy is a TRAITOR to the UNITED STATES of AMERICA. As is that soldier who gave it to them. It's one thing when you release information because it's the right thing to do, okay fine. This person? THIS info? THIS hurts America, it makes us look weak to every other country.

So Wikileaks is no longer this place that just wants to be a good hearted whistle blower. This is stuff that is to just hurt America. Other countries will wonder if they can trust communication etc.

...I question the morals behind Wikileaks at this point.

Good. He, along with the U.S. intelligence officer, should be tried for espionage and hanged. Who knows how many deaths they are responsible for after leaking the names of informants..

All information on wikileaks is given to them. The American people deserve to know what is being covered up by our government. A government should fear its people, not the other way around.

So far, the 'death count' is Zero. Too bad the events they exposing we're not so benign. 100,000s dead across the globe as a result of Western domination and expansion, and you are babbling on about somebody getting hurt as a result of the Truth getting out?

With all due respect, until you parroting gov't FOOLS stop repeating whatever you hear on FauxNews, maybe you just just be quiet. You hurt the narrative, and other peoples ability to properly analyze events. Get a brain of your very own and stop allowing FauxNews to drone you into essentially running prop pieces for them. You have no idea how what you are saying could even come to pass, let alone if it's even true.

But you'll just say it anyway right? Pathetic!

    • Joe M.

@Amrankwit – How do you know the death count is zero? All I know is that the names of informants have been leaked, those informants are located in hostile territory, and the enemy is merciless in punishing any dissenters in their midst. I think my logic trumps yours.

As for the whole "the people should know everything their government does to protect them" thing, people who will do anything to subvert military action because they believe "world peace" is possible should not know what the government is up to. Just because you value the lives of terrorists more than Americans doesn't mean you should inflict that view on everybody else.

I may be wrong...but I think in this world information sells...more sensitive it is..more costly it is. I think wiki leaks will make a deal to get millions (if not billions) and release few sensitive and bunch of non sensitive information.

I've thought that was Wikileaks motive all along–worldwide Extortion. Otherwise, why release it in dribs and drabs? In fact, why release it at all? They've never given a coherent reason why they're doing this, which leaves MONEY and GREED the most obvious ones. Why else do supposedly loyal American citizens in top secret jobs spy on their own country? They turn out not to be superpatriots, but good old fashion Traitors. These people don't give this information away to Russia, China or Israel, they SELL it.

Welcome to the new world order that if your goverment does not want you to know something they will just censor you .. and I have to love all the people that blindly follow the blind .. We are at war we are this we are that .. United States is the only goverment in the world that 2 countries will start to fight and we just have to be in the middle of it .. Personally I will help push these files and all other wiki files on torrent sites until my ISP turns me off then i will just get a new one ..
