News outlets publish cables leaked by Wikileaks

Details of classified U.S. government documents leaked by whistleblower website WikiLeaks were published Sunday by four international news outlets.

No documents had been posted on WikiLeaks, which said via Twitter earlier Sunday that it was under cyber attack, when five newspapers - the New York Times, the Guardian in England, Le Monde in France, Der Spiegel in Germany and El Pais in Spain - put details from the leaked documents on their websites.

The United States had warned WikiLeaks editor-in-chief Julian Assange that publishing the papers would be illegal and endanger peoples' lives.

Earlier Sunday, Wikileaks tweeted that it was experiencing a distributed denial of service (DDOS) attack. That's an effort to make a website unavailable to users, normally by flooding it with requests for data.

People are only outraged because we haven't had a free press in this country for many years. A democracy doesn't function without a free press. The two go hand in hand. Free press is a requirement to make democracy work. All the major news channels in America are now owned and operated by private interests - war machine people (GE and Boeing) own NBC, CBS, etc., two of the wealthiest men on the planet own CNN and Fox, and so we haven't had free press and now people are getting really angry because suddenly we have someone putting out the truth. I am surprised at how many people line up to say "we don't want fair and honest reporting, we like the garbage shoved at us and called 'news'". Go WL. Do the job our news won't.

FYI: Corruption in any form is part of human nature and universal. The US government did not invent it. The US government is not the first to use it. It was here before the US and will be here after the US.

How can you try a person for treason when they are not citizens of this country? Remember the Pentagon Papers? How many were killed because of their release? None that I ever heard of. What about the Tonkin Gulf Resolution. How many brave, young, full of life American soldiers died because of that terrible LIE created by the "phrat boys" in our govt. that never did anything for this country. We can go on and on about these things and nothing will change. We can't even look one another in the eye and admit the truth about the hate and racism that is so alive and well in the United States.

Maybe we can finally discover where some of the lost money went. Or how it got into a position to be lost in the first place. Talking about literally billions of dollars in cash being loaded by the pallet onto trucks. How about leaking the correspondence from that?

I have been wondering why it took so long for someone to take down this site. All White House has to do is to spend lots of money and hire some internet hackers, hack into wikileaks website and take it down.

@Joe: I'm a straight edge. Your 2 prior miscalculations of me show you have a very narrow mind and probably can't do simple math. I favor assassinations instead of all out war that gets innocents caught in the middle. All you cry babies need to learn the game of chess. We are the pawns. Either fight back in a way that's effective or quit whining. "Grr I'm so mad! I'm going to vote one bum out and elect another bum! Grrr" @phil: I'd rather be a goat than an ancient aliens watching racist like you. 🙂

If I were to publish some army grunt's initial field report about some former LA gang-banger "serving" in Iraq raping your sister, would you call me traitor?

I just dont think it matters anymore what we think of WL. The fact is, the ball is rolling and its going to be very difficult to stop. It has become popular in our culture to expose truth. For what it is and regardless of the consequences. People want to know if we are living a lie in this nation. If the evening news is molded by those in power to effect popular thinking. They want to know if the votes they cast on election day really counts for a damn thing. Theres nothing more frightening than not knowing truth. And, for me, nothing more sad than the prospect of learning late in life that all of my beliefs and national pride were based on lies dealt by corrupt beaurocrats. Men of power want to stay in power. They like it there. And they will use whatever means necessary to keep it. But again, the ball is rolling and WL in one form or another is here to stay.

These leaks are largely a collection of initial field observations published before they were 'sanitized' by superior officers for release. The only troops endangered by these leaks are the guilty ones. Snitches always get found out regardless.

@Thomas...well said. The truth does indeed set one free. Without truth, there is no freedom. ( "What is truth" said Pontius Pilate to Jesus before handing him over to the angry mob)

We came for your women!!! Oh and to build pyramids. And to create a hybrid primate/alien race of which Jesus was the first. Basically we came to hit it and quit it. All wars are based on this. And money. I like money.

To all you flag wavingn, freedom fighting, gay bashing,FAR RIGHT WING ZEALOTS,please note that some of out here who A.remember Dalton Trumbo B.Joe McCarthy C.Herbert Hoover D.Richard Nixon E.Karl Rowe F.G.Bush jr. G.Richard j. Daley sr.(The biggest democratic political crook ever.)H.John Lennon(if joe and herbert could have gotten together on that one tax's would have surely gone up to irradicate that evil monster). And on and on.the problem is us.we do not have any government control because of GREED and POWER.time after time we refuse to wake and demand honesty from ELECTED officials. Anybody remember who died in a commercial plane crash with a suitcase full of cash that was a fringe player in watergate.very sad memory for her children, but john q. Public after 3 days could have cared less. That's why our go
vernment is probably on the whole the most legalized mafia in the world. Brainwashing is easy, drink your kool-aid and breath the air.Has anybody ever noticed that histleblowers get swallowed up and crushed.Always pays to care.
