Metrodome roof collapses; NFL game moved
[12:18 p.m. ET] The New York Giants-Minnesota Vikings game will take place Monday at 7:20 p.m. at Ford Field in Detroit, Michigan, the NFL said in a statement Sunday. The game was moved after the roof of the Vikings' Metrodome in Minneapolis collapsed due to heavy snow.
[11 a.m. ET] The game between the Minnesota Vikings and the New York Giants will not be played at the Metrodome on Monday or Tuesday because of the roof collapse caused by heavy snow, the NFL announced Sunday.
The league is exploring the possibility of playing Monday night at the University of Minnesota's TCF Bank Stadium or another domed NFL stadium, according to a statement from Greg Aiello of the NFL.
[Original post] Heavy snow has caused the roof of the Metrodome in Minneapolis, Minnesota, to collapse, a spokesman for the Minnesota State Patrol said Sunday.
A blizzard that hit the Midwest prompted officials Saturday night - before the roof collapsed - to postpone Sunday's scheduled NFL game between the Minnesota Vikings and New York Giants. A statement from the Vikings cited "unsafe conditions related to the Metrodome roof and the weather."
The game was rescheduled from Sunday afternoon to Monday night, the team said.
The Giants were stranded at Kansas City International Airport on
Saturday, unable to get to Minnesota because of the snow, said team spokesman Peter John-Baptiste.

You do realize that climate change manifests itself in causing more extreme weather on both sides of the spectrum correct? But you shouldn't count every snow storm and every thunderstorm as a result of climate change because the changes are so gradual that there would be no discernible change in precipitation if you compared every storm.
If you meant this in earnest, you're absolutely right – if you meant this as sarcasm, it's an ill-informed attempt. Global warming is also inclusive of the extremes of temperature.

This past "winter" washington dc, atlanta, texas all received more snow than portland maine.
Right now we have brown grass no snow and today its to be in the 40's.

Global warming is a reflection of the average temperature for the entire planet for an entire year. A snowstorm in winter in Minnesota is still going to happen even if the planet warms by 3 or 4 degrees.

2010 has been the hottest year in recorded history. The fact that one cold front caused a lot of precipitation does not cancel out overwhelming proof that the earth is gradually getting warmer. Don't you conservatives get tired of being wrong about everything?
I ask you liberals to stop for a second, and think carefully about this issue. When are you liberals finally going to concede that this global warming stuff may be total nonsense?? I will give you some examples. First, it used to be that global warming meant that the weather was getting hotter, but now you liberals try and explain the severe winter storm by saying that global warming encompasses extremes of temperatures on both sides. That is some fancy dancing, if you ask me. But here is another example. I live in Florida. About 5 years ago, we had 3-4 hurricanes within a couple months time. I think it was at the time of Katrina. Anyway, you liberals explained at the time tthat this was because of global warming, and I distinctly remember you saying that global warming would result in an increased frequency of hurricanes, and more powerful hurricanes to boot. Well, we haven't had a single hurricane since that time. Another hurricane season has passed, with no hurricane. Well guess what? Do you know what I just heard on the radio--a liberal explaining that the LACK of hurricanes is due to global warming. I do not have a scientific background, although I do have 4 college degrees, so I am obviously not qualified to know whether global warming is valid or not (by the way, 99% of the proponents of global warming are not qualifed to make this assessment either, even though they routinely do so), but ask yourself this: If global warming was so obviously true, then why did those scientists in England fabricate data, and cover up conflicting data, and propose that a name-calling campaign be conducted against those scientists who have concluded that global warming is not a valid concept?. Global warming has become like a religion. And also, who generally attends those global warming conferences. If you look closely, many are socialist/communist anti-capitalist groups, who have a political agenda. Finally, even if global warming IS true, there is not a lot we can do about it, as long as India and China do not change their ways. Wow you people on the the right have a very short memory. It was Frank Luntz who came up with the term "Climate Change." He was George W. Bush's spin doctor, he also coined the phrases "Death Tax" instead of estate or inheritance tax, "Elcectonic Inercept" insteat of wire tapping or evesdropping, and "Oppurtunuity Scholarships" instead of school vouchers (that one never caught on). He also redefined "Orwellian" to be a positive thing. So all you people saying that the term climate change came out because liberals were somehow proven wrong about global warming... you're wrong, look it up. The phrase was intentionally coined by the right-wing to create doubt about the source of the Earth's warming trends.

You told us all that there was a direct, simplistic, cause-and-effect relationship between increased CO2 and the earth's temperature - as if an organism as complex as the earth could ever or has ever had a "temperature." You don't change the facts to fit your theory. As a scientist, I can tell you that's forbidden. The New York Times came out and URGED all true believers to use "climate change," not "global warming." I guess they're part of the eeeeeeeeevil Bush cabal! Wouldn't you think that in designing the dome that you would take into account whether the building could withstand a "one in hundred year heavy snow fall"?. This snow event wasn't anything out of the ordinary. 12-14 inches of heavy snow. That is nothing unusual for the upper midwest. If you can't design it to withstand than don't build it.
I know.. I don't get it.. the dome survived our 1991 Halloween snow storm and we got 30 inches then!
I wouldn't go as far to say it "wasn't anything out of the ordinary." I've never seen, in my time in Minnesota, a snowfall (even the 1991 Halloween blizzard) that was that nonstop. And the winds were ridiculous. No, a 12" snowfall isn't too crazy for MN, but this was the 8th largest snow on record for the Twin Cities... so it wasn't just another blizzard. The fact that it went for 15 hours without stopping was pretty unique as well.
