Metrodome roof collapses; NFL game moved

[12:18 p.m. ET] The New York Giants-Minnesota Vikings game will take place Monday at 7:20 p.m. at Ford Field in Detroit, Michigan, the NFL said in a statement Sunday. The game was moved after the roof of the Vikings' Metrodome in Minneapolis collapsed due to heavy snow.

[11 a.m. ET] The game between the Minnesota Vikings and the New York Giants will not be played at the Metrodome on Monday or Tuesday because of the roof collapse caused by heavy snow, the NFL announced Sunday.

The league is exploring the possibility of playing Monday night at the University of Minnesota's TCF Bank Stadium or another domed NFL stadium, according to a statement from Greg Aiello of the NFL.

[Original post] Heavy snow has caused the roof of the Metrodome in Minneapolis, Minnesota, to collapse, a spokesman for the Minnesota State Patrol said Sunday.

A blizzard that hit the Midwest prompted officials Saturday night - before the roof collapsed - to postpone Sunday's scheduled NFL game between the Minnesota Vikings and New York Giants. A statement from the Vikings cited "unsafe conditions related to the Metrodome roof and the weather."

The game was rescheduled from Sunday afternoon to Monday night, the team said.

The Giants were stranded at Kansas City International Airport on
Saturday, unable to get to Minnesota because of the snow, said team spokesman Peter John-Baptiste.

It was already moved to Monday last night, but now might need to be rescheduled altogether. Ugh, I have tickets too! Glad I didn't venture out of my home in Wi last night to get up there! And it doesn't matter how many more days it's give Brett a rest – we will still take him down!

I'm not sure what any of these less than intelligent remarks have to do with the metrodome collapsing. Heavy snow made it collapse. It's happend 2x's before. Stuff happens. My remark about the tea partiers fault is to demonstrate how silly these posts are

This isn't the first time the roof collapsed. Last time it was fixed in 4 days.

Vikings' front office deflated it on purpose because they've been wanting a new stadium...this gives them a reason! 🙂

What about anthropomorphic climate change? I need to know. Is it a fact?

Pity we have a government that has been spending like drunken sailors for the past 30 years. Sorry guys. No free pass this time. You can build your own darn stadium.

I am kind of bummed that the Monday night game is for local markets only. I would watch it and even promise to watch one insurance commercial where the pig goes "wee wee wee" all the way home. Wasn't it last year that they were having two monday night games some weeks. Also wonder where they will play if the roof collapsed. Maybe put the game off longer so Favre can play.some time in July.

  12. wow

That plane was stranded in KC for a reason. Can't even imagine if there would have been a game going on when that happened. Could have been tragic.
