The U.S. Senate failed Saturday morning to halt debate and move to a vote on the DREAM Act, which would create a path to citizenship for some illegal immigrants who entered the country as children.
Supporters could not rally the 60 votes needed to invoke cloture, which would conclude debate on the matter so it could proceed to a vote for or against passage. The vote on the cloture motion was 55-41.

Senate voters against the DREAM Act just put our dreams on hold.. they have not killed them!

See, that is what bothers me. I can handle immigrants wanting a better life for their families, but respect our culture! Pay taxes, learn the language, follow our laws. Most immigrants have their own communites; Little China, Little Italy, the Irish in bean town, the Ukrainian areas in my neighborhood. If we want to partake in the cullture, we go were they are. If they want to experience our culture, they do the same. Hispanics will not do that. My daughter is going to a public school in Charlotte, NC. 65% of the kids are Hispanic....most with parents who do not speak the language (and I have met many Asian families, who, after just 2 years of living here, can speak the English language better than I can...so it can be done.) It is estimated that 80% of the Hispanic community is here illegally. 95% of people applying for Welfare are Hispanic. My daughter's public school is an ESL school (ENGLISH AS A SECOND LANGUAGE...if you can believe that.) The Hispanic community is doing NOTHING to aclimate themselves to our culture. Instead they are simply bull-dozering over our culture and replacing it with their own, becoming the most powerfull minority in the country, and hurting all of us by putting additional strain on our infastructure (in Charlotte, NC we no longer have enough schools or doctors to support the extra people who are not paying taxes, by the way) When I moved back after college, it took over a year to find a pediatrician for my daughter and guess what...the freak'n receptionist who work there DON'T SPEAK ENGLISH! Seriously, am I the only one worried?
It was mom & pop not the children. Stop the dumb sh&t.
I don't care who comes here that's how it all started. But do it legally, participate and pay taxes!
a lot of dreamers and dreamers parents pay taxes. a lot of dreamers HAVE social security, but lack the birth certificate or green card to go any further.
we have been doing that since we got here.. and yet we are not equal??
this will be remembered... not by just the dreamers, but the friends and families of dreamers who are already citizens and alien residents.. remember this next generation who have the eligibility to vote will decide this future.. good luck being elected again in the future..

Oh trust me...I am not naive enough to deny that the Hispanic communty is slowy taking over our way of life with no regard to our culture. It is the liberals that our blind. But seriously, the fall of Constantinople, the fall of the Ottoman Empire, the British taking over Africa, the rise to power of Rome.....not to mention the way we totally decimated the Hispanic and Native-American cultures for the right to live on this land. But, come on guys. That would NEVER happen to us or our way of life because we could never be invaded, replaced, or have our economic power deflated by another country. Right? Right? Hello...is this thing on?
There was something inherently wrong with this bill, the way it was being used as leverage for amnesty and not being fairly structured to win by having end goals and only benefiting those students directly involved and those deserving. There were other issues that corrupted the Act and the Democrats are to blame for that. What they wanted to shove through the pipeline was not a Dream Act, it was a Nightmare Act for the American people and now they can try to lay the blame somewhere else. Stinky politics, bad actors.
Great! Now they can take the illegal alien parents and make a run for the border. Next we need enforcement and we will end the anchor baby incentive. Thanks to all who helped defeat this lie and fraud of a bill!
YES !!! So glad this bill failed. Yet another loss for illegals, their racist advocates and traiterous pols like Gutierrez and Durbin. I hope this will shut them all up for awhile since no one cares what they think or want. Americans have said over and over that we will not accept another amnesty. Could it be that Congress might actually be starting to listen to the folks for a change??
No you are not equal because you broke the law to get here! There is a process that you musy follow in order to gain citizenship.
And even with that process you do know it takes AGES right? However long it takes it doesnt matter, we'll do it if that's what it takes but the reason that most immigrants don't have their citizenship yet is that it takes them away from their families for an extremely long period of time. It is not an easy or fast process. Look it up then tell me what you think.
If Mexico was not the toilet sewer of a country it is, we wouldn't have this problem. Solution: These is none that can be implemented. Mexico like the rest of the poor countries, are bringing us down to our knees financially.
No, its extreme laziness from some native-born Americans. Immigrants find a way to get back up with no complaints. They came to this country empty handed and now u do not see them begging on the streets for anything, they earn every penny in their pocket.

I have nothing against these young people, however, I do not believe that as a result of their getting citizenship their parents who broke our laws could gain citizenship. No one should be rewarded for breaking our laws. Also why should these young people have the benefit of paying in-state tuition, when there are many citizens that would like to have that benefit so they can go to school. This was not a bill to help just the young people, it was backdoor amnesty for many illegal immigrants.

Schemes like the DREAM act may be the solution to an ILLEGAL immigrant's problem, but it has an adverse effect on the legitimate citizens of this country. One, it encourages more illegal immigration. (To deny that fact is just inane.) Number two, it further delays addressing the real problem - a porous border. I think it's hysterical that so many people want to exacerbate the illegal immigration problem rather than solve it. CLOSE THE BORDER FIRST. Only then will you get support for things like the DREAM act. So all of you illegals and liberals: fight for a CLOSED border first and you will get your DREAM schemes after that. Until that border is sealed, you will always be considered "illegals" to most Americans.
@Reina: With all due respect, I don't believe, for a minute, that the reason most immigrants don't have their citizenship is because they'd be away from their families for too long. No doubt that's a factor but my money's on the position that non-citizens don't pay taxes. . .please convince me that these 'illegals' would really rather have citizenship and pay taxes than to simply be doing the jobs everyone says Americans don't want to do and consuming publicly funded services without paying for them. If it's true they're doing jobs unemployed Americans won't do (and I'm not going to argue against this position), does that alone justify consuming services funded by working and tax paying American citizens?
Key point of Dream Act was two years college or military service, which is HUGE Discrimination for those who failed test or exams, or didn't pass military recruitment criteria. Who idea to select "Good Apples" from "Bad Apples", and to deport Bad ones with families..
