Senate vote hits snooze button on DREAM Act

The U.S. Senate failed Saturday morning to halt debate and move to a vote on the DREAM Act, which would create a path to citizenship for some illegal immigrants who entered the country as children.

Supporters could not rally the 60 votes needed to invoke cloture, which would conclude debate on the matter so it could proceed to a vote for or against passage. The vote on the cloture motion was 55-41.

Your government imports slaves because you are either too lazy or too snooty to perform these tasks for yourselves. They did the same for you when you demanded more oil. Your gov. got you more oil, now you drive gas guzzlers. They got you more food...now you are obese. Still fit and trim enoigh to complain about it though.

@Slavedriver: So you are saying there is more money coming out, than there is going in because of people like Pancho. Well, Senior Pancho, do you agree with this assessment of fund short falls?

@Pancho: Do you think the Dream Act may pass one day, and are you gay? Was it hard to get here from Mexico?

@Pancho: Did you leave Mexico because of violence, gay bashing, or for a better economic life?

The biggest problem with the DREAM act was the fact that it was not strict enough , the requirements could be met by any illegal alien willing to lie on a piece of paper with no surefire way of ascertaining the credibility of the application. Also the 2 year requirement is a joke , the minimum criteria should have been a college degree with good grades and NO misdemeanors at all.

The 'hardship' clause was also ridiculous.

Bring another bill to the table , set the age limit as 25 , NO criminal record of any type , no misdemeanors , 5 years in the military in active service before becoming eligible for discharge OR a college degree and not just two years in trade school or something , no ability to sponsor relatives other than immediate dependents for people benefiting from this and finally , STRICT verification process for screening of applications with the burden of proof falling on the applicant.

THAT is fair enough for me , if they can meet those requirements , they have earned it. It's only fair , I had to wait 9 YEARS as a legal applicant to gain permanent residency and had to go through a hell lot of grief to get it. I earned it(While not sponging off from the system).
