William and Kate will dispense their own toothpaste, thank you

Some royals have domestic staff who do things such as set out their clothes for the next day. But Britain’s Prince William and his fiancée apparently are set to do their own cooking and household tasks during their first years of marriage.

The prince and Kate Middleton, who are to marry in April, will not have household staff until at least after William finishes his tour as a Royal Air Force search and rescue pilot in three years, The Daily Telegraph reported Wednesday.

They'll still have security personnel who will watch over them. But doing without a staff for cooking and cleaning is "probably William's way of protecting Kate and making sure that her entry into the royal family is as gentle and as palatable as he can possibly make it," Katie Nicholl, a royal correspondent for the Mail on Sunday, told CNN's Brooke Baldwin on Wednesday.

"I think it's been quite a big thing for Kate Middleton to get her head around having a protection officer. This is something she'd never had to have in her life before. Now she has one, and I think what they're both trying to do is preserve as much normality as they can while they can have it," Nicholl said.

While the second in line to the British throne might not forgo a domestic staff for the rest of his life, he may want a home life that contrasts with that of his father, Prince Charles, who has often been criticized by the British public for having too many staff, Nicholl said. About eight years ago, British media reported Charles allegedly had a valet who put toothpaste onto his toothbrush for him.

"I don't think William wants that. He wants to be far more independent," Nicholl said.

William and Kate already have done their own cooking, shopping and cleaning during weekends at a cottage on the Welsh island of Anglesey, where he is stationed, The Telegraph reported.

Dear Prince William: you have to learn to be a King and not a pauper.Get out of that pauper image and bring England back to the image of magnificence, glory, and wealth.

So you want to encourage needless spending with the world economy being what it is and several people struggling on basics. Sheer brilliance! You should be the royal advisor.

This couple is more practical. The former British Empire is strictly history in all its splendor, but never to be again. Memories are what they are now, and life moves on. The struggling economy has hit the UK also, in fact, Katie and Bill are trying to make it as much on their own and are more in touch with reality of the people of Uk and their struggle with the economy also.
They know the maintenance of the Royals is a drain on the UK because it is only symbolic of the past glory. If you feel so inclined, they may welcome a small/generous donation from you to help the charities of Britain in these troublesome times.

      To Realist and John Doughboy-
The British Monarchy is paid by the people of Britan. They are given generous allowances and can ask Parlement for more should they need it. A lot of people think this is unfair, as many people don't realize what the monarchy does for Britian. Actually, the biggest contribution they do is foregoing all the rent on all the property they own, a staggering amount of money which would bankrupt the British goverment in short order should those debts come do.

It takes more than having servants following around after you cleaning up your mess to be a good monarch. Perhaps William and Kate realize that the general public are in need of a more modern royal family.

Dear no going to be happy marriage,
I think the marriage won't even last a year maybe a couple of months. Kate's picture have been seen a newspaper and has bold letters saying " DRUNK " in public but with another man has she been cheating William just like Diana did with her husband? We will just have to wate and see what will happen in a couple of months.. By......

Diana was cheating on Prince Charles? What about Prince Charles through there whole marriage having Camilla in the picture...it was never a marriage between Diana and Charles but rather a marriage between diana, charles, and camilla. That marriage was doomed as Prince Charles never gave Dianna a chance always having his mistress available to him. I do not know if kate is cheating or not...but i feel charles cheated in the marriage first.

They've been together for over eight years...and lived together. If they were going to break up it would have happend by now...or better yet they would not have gotten back together after they took a "break" ...They are not entering into this union blindy as Diana was with Charles. I also think Miss Middleton knows what she is getting into being around the family for so long. So in my opinion I think they will make it!!

You all must be nuts to say that Kate would not last, the marriage would not last. You apparently have been living under a rock for the past 10 years. That's how long they have been together (including a brief split in 2007). Kate has ample time to learn how to be a royal, make the transistion from commoner to royal, and to get to know William really, really well. She would not have accepted William's proposal if she felt she wasn't ready or up to the job that would come with being a future Princess of Wales.

And besides, other European crown princes have married commoners. Look at Norway's Crown Prince Haakon and his commoner wife Mette-Marit. Or the Danish crown prince and his Australian-born wife Mary McDonnell. How about Crown Princess Victoria of Sweden and her new husband Daniel Westberg, who was her personal trainer? Or what about the Spanish crown prince whose wife was a TV reporter?

Next time you knock William and Kate, maybe you should hit up Wikipedia and study ALL the European royal families. Oh, by the way....this is NOT the first time the British royal family has welcomed a commoner into the fold – the last time? 350 years ago.

And know what? I love William and Kate all the more for not using any servants for the time being! Far too many royals are sooo spoiled!

Crown Prince Frederik married Mary Donaldson and Crown Princess Victoria married Daniel Westling. I agree that the European royals have the right idea by marrying people who can do the job. Prince Albert of Monaco is also marrying a commoner next year. Everyone assumed Charles and Diana would stay married because they came from the "right" families and everyone knows how that marriage didn't work out.

    feel of all this.
what do we got at the Wh. House ? a smiling incompetent not to mention his other half ?
and they spend much more money on their trips etc then the english royals. and just put us deeper in the red ?
