Montel Williams cited for drug paraphernalia

The Milwaukee County Sheriff's Office in Wisconsin has confirmed that former talk show host Montel Williams was issued a citation for possession of drug paraphernalia at General Mitchell International Airport on Tuesday.

Williams was caught by TSA with a pipe commonly used for marijuana while going through a security checkpoint, a sheriff's spokesperson said.  He paid the citation of $484 and was released to resume his travel plans.

Williams suffers from multiple sclerosis and is a prominent advocate for legalizing marijuana for medicinal purposes.

Time to legalize this medicinal plant. This country is ridiuculous its like alcohol prohibition it did nothing but make criminals out of ordinary honest people and created a HUGE underground of dishonest people.

I live in Milwaukee. This is one of the most idiotic cities and state to live in. He got fined without due process for possessing a pipe!

@ tzvikf – His due process was not violated; the paraphernalia charge is a minor offense and likely didn't require his appearance at a court date. He opted to plead no contest/guilty, pay the fine immediately, and be on his way. Fighting the citation in court would require a trip back to WI, and for such a minor offense he decided to just be done with it. And if you don't like WI, please move.

he takes medical marijuana for MS, a horrible disease, its RIDICULOUS that he would get arrested for this.

Well, he wasn't arrested. He was fined, and it was a pretty reasonable fine for him, all things considered. I can't help but wonder if he carried it through intentionally, planning to pay the fine, to bring attention to medicinal marijuana. I wouldn't expect him to be arrested, but in this case I kind of think "no harm, no foul."

Matt, you are correct. The article says he was released, implying that he was detained. Angela, you might want to read more thoroughly before commenting.

Medical marijuana is only legal in some states. It might be illegal in Wisconsin. It is also illegal under federal law. I think this is unfortunate, but it is what it is.

For the record – "Montel Williams" does not now, nor has he ever had "MS"; I know this because I know, and have known, "Him" for several years; The (idea) about this ruse came about shortly after his "Show" was canceled, and while he was going through his "Divorce", ( It is therefore no suprise when I state that he is paying a "Doctor" to confirm his claims about "MS").

He has MS and I believe it helps to ease his symptoms; the article seemed to lack that little bit of info.

Pt.2: Fron PJJ* : The above (statement) is being submitted by a person who happens to have severe "MS", and while I do have an ID Card for the possession of "Marijuana", I found it's use to be a waste of time, as it has no clinical effect on me, nor do I see the risk in having a cop stop me, and (try) and arrest me for "possession", when I would be in compliance of the "Law".

@PJJ- As someone with 8 years with MS in a currently mild form- you would know that MS affects each individual differently. What doesn't work for you may do wonders for Montel. You are not the authority on Montel's MS. Play again later.

Hmm, could it be that the card only works in his home state and not in Wisconsin? Nah, that couldn't be it.

Probably shouldn't jump to calling people idiots.

As others have stated, Montel Williams uses marijuana as a patient of Multiple Sclerosis. He is an advocate for the legalization of medical marijuana as he knows from first hand account that marijuana can provide benefits to people with similar ailments as his. He has spoken at many rallies including one I witnessed in Connecticut a few years ago. Montel has stated in the past that anytime you see him in a public setting, he is under the influence of marijuana otherwise he would not be able to have the same comfort and standard of living. He would be unrecognizable from what you are used to seeing him like. Montel Williams is proof that marijuana does not turn you into a stuttering idiot but MS does. Let the man live his life at the highest quality rather than suffer.
