The Milwaukee County Sheriff's Office in Wisconsin has confirmed that former talk show host Montel Williams was issued a citation for possession of drug paraphernalia at General Mitchell International Airport on Tuesday.
Williams was caught by TSA with a pipe commonly used for marijuana while going through a security checkpoint, a sheriff's spokesperson said. He paid the citation of $484 and was released to resume his travel plans.
Williams suffers from multiple sclerosis and is a prominent advocate for legalizing marijuana for medicinal purposes.

It is embarassing that our system is easily beaten by real criminals while good people doing no harm to anyone are cited for possession of a pipe.
Can't Montel get a prescription for medical pot??
Wisconsin doesn't have a medical marijuana law and most states don't honour other states MM cards. So he could have a California MM card but that still makes him a criminal in about 47 other states.
No one gets a prescription to pot. People get a recommendation. That's a fine distinction, but relevant nonetheless.

To get a little more technical – there are actually about 11 people I believe (some may have died) that have Federal Prescriptions for Medical Marijuana. I believe they did it back in the Reagan years and all are/were suffering with glaucoma. Other than that your right, no prescriptions, just recommendations.
@ MXD, Montel does have a license for medical Marijuana, that's not what the fine was for, he got fined for the used pipe cause apparently he couldn't wait for his luggage at baggage claims. If medical Marijuana works then legalize it, tax it, be sure to have a license for it and be done with it, the only problem is that a person caught with Marijuana without a license is likely to do more time in prison than if that person killed another thus overfilling prisons and costing actual taxpayers more money to rising prison costs rather than the money going to the state and back to the hard american taxpaying worker.
The pharmaceutical companies sell a drug known as marinol. Marinol is synthesized THC. THC is the active ingredient in marijuana. How do these companies legally make and sell this drug while pot is illegal....when they are the same thing?
think about that, why would anyone want to synthesize something that occurs naturally in nature, very easy answer..MONEY pharmaceutical companies are responsible for most of the bad press surrounding marijuana, time for america to wake up

Contrary to popular belief, people who smoke weed do laugh at things when they're not under the influence. That s*** wasn't funny! Ted Danson isn't and never was funny, the liners on Cheers were written for him. When he tried to be funny on his own, a black face was the best thing he could come up with. Richard Prior never had to don a White Face to get laughs and he made EVERYBODY laugh, imagine that.

In California they advertise pot on TV commercials. You can "buy" a prescription for 55.00 with such ailments as "insomnia" or "back aches"and pick your favorite brand right off the shelf. If you get caught with less than 2 ounces and no prescription... The govenator just made it as horrible as driving 60 in a 55 except your insurance won't go up. Not that anyone with half a brain would want to copy California..Just saying this because very soon no one will even bat an eye when this happens.
Coming from California where we have one of the lowest student test scores in this country the last thing our kids need to do is get stoned on pot, but since marijuana laws have been lax kids smoking pot is common. They say you have to be 21 to smoke it here but 12 year olds are smoking it. Let's give it 5 or 10 years and we will see how our kids fare. Just don't come around me while smoking it or afterwards. It stinks worse than BO to me.

Journalism 101 says you have to put the hook in the headline and first paragraph. According to CNN, he could just as easily be a crack or heroin addict. Huge difference between that and someone who suffers from MS and uses medical marijuana.
Factually you were correct, but you could have put a much different and more honest "slant" on the story by mentioning the MS and medical marijuana part up front instead at the very bottom.

I completely understand his reason for using marijuana. I strongly support the legalization of the stuff. However, with all of the problems going on right now, why would you carry a marijuana pipe with you on an airplane? It's just asking to get fined or arrested. It's not like he can smoke on the plane even if weed were legal.
technically a drug is any substance that alters your state of mind. oxygen can do that in pure form. so everybody hold your breath. there is nothing wrong with pot. only reason its not legal is because tobacco companies would lose a lot of money. i don't consider pot a drug mainly because it is literally impossible to overdose on marijuana. unless someone spiked your stash with something far more dangerous.
Not to be argumentative, but technically I would say that's the definition of a narcotic, not a drug. Tthough narcotics are drugs.
maybe if more than 20 percent of the population turned out to vote on the issue of legalization of marijuana then something would get done about it. or the supreme court would just refer to the electoral college instead of the populist vote and not legalize it. but either way get off your butt and do something about it. write your congressman and use the right to vote!
