Michigan fires coach Rich Rodriguez

The University of Michigan has fired embattled head football coach Rich Rodriguez, Athletic Director Dave Brandon said in a press conference.

No replacement has been named yet.

The announcement ends a three-year stint at the school with Rodriguez at the helm. Their latest disappointment came during the Gator Bowl where the Michigan Wolverines lost by 38 points to Mississippi State - their largest margin ever in any bowl game.

Well, at least the education at U of M is still outstanding and some of the best in the world! And, of course, Ann Arbor has Cottage Inn Pizza. (Yumm. Pizza) MS doesn't have that type of pizza, I bet! So, who cares about the bad football! LOL

They'll probably hire Greg Robinson, one of Rich's asst. coaches.
Robinson took a decent Syracuse team and led them to virtually no victories in 3 years(LOL).
Robinson was fired also--but he walked away with million, just like Rich will do.

For three years Rodriguez has been recruiting players for the much touted (and unsuccessful) "spread offense". The next coach will probably return to traditional Big-10 style football. What happens to the "spread type" players that Rodriguez recruited? You can't fire the players. Assuming Michigan can find a good coach, It will take at least three years for Michigan to rebuild.

Seems to me people forget RR came to UM having to start from scratch and that this can take time, especially when the majority of players are freshman. Now the same thing will more than likely happen when they bring in another coach; start over, takes time, fans/alumni scream bloody murder for a new coach – and the cycle could keep going. With the time and money invested I would think they'd go one more year. We did go from 3 wins to 5 then 7 (yeah unfortunately no bowl wins) The offense really improved but the defense needs major help and that's where the firing should've started. Also this whole "Michigan Man" crap – seems people forget that Schembechler wasn't a MI man – he's from OH!! Don't get me wrong – I loved him as coach! The fans/alumni need to get over having a "Michigan Man' coach – what's needed is a someone who can work with the existing offense and keep them improving and to bring in someone who can help that defense. Man it's frustrating being a "true-blue" fan.

As a USF fan, I was sad to see "Rodriguez" leave for UM. We owned his "teams" (And that's not saying much).

Let's be honest, this was a poor marriage to begin with. Rodriguez has an entirely different offense then traditional Michigan fans were used to. I questioned this move three years ago, as did many others. The Michigan lost alot of luster over the last 10 years, maninly because they haven't found a coach that can beat Ohio State. By the way, this just in, Ohio State will open the 2011 with a home game against the little sisters of the poor.

What are the grades and graduation rate for MU? Oh, that's right – that's not why these kids go to college.

I find it funny that people are saying MSU beating Michigan was a fluke- how is it 3 years in a row is just by chance?? Michigan is terrible and shut little sister up pretty quickly. And last time I checked, we played the same teams and went 11-1 in the regular season. and might I add... MSU beat Wisconsin. boom.

Definitely believe that which you said. Your favorite reason seemed to be on the web the easiest thing to take note of. I say to you, I definitely get irked even as other people consider worries that they plainly don't know about. You controlled to hit the nail upon the highest as well as defined out the entire thing without having side effect , other folks can take a signal. Will likely be back to get more. Thank you
