Oil in Trans Alaska pipeline slows to trickle

Only a fraction of the oil that normally courses through the Trans Alaska pipeline was flowing early Sunday after operators discovered a leak near Prudhoe Bay, a company spokeswoman said.

Crews making a routine inspection "found oil in the basement of a booster pump building" around 9 a.m. Saturday, according to Aleyeska Pipeline Service. Company spokeswoman Michelle Egan, who said flow has been reduced by 95%.

On a typical day, 642,261 barrels of oil would pass through the pipeline.

"Crews are currently onsite to assess the situation and isolate the source of the leak," a company statement said..

Douglas....Of course the oil companies have A LOT of control over oil prices!!!!!
They are the SUPPLY of the 'supply and demand'!!!!
That is the reason OPEC was formed!!
    It's what they do best!!!!!

    Why does nobody mention Hydrogen?
It can power autos, can be made easily, and when it burns, it returns to water–no pollution!!!
I know someone will say "you need coal powered electricity to make it", but you can use solar wind or water power to make it. It will NEVER run out because you can make it in your backyard!
That is why the govt. won't tell you about it. If you can make it, they can't tax it!(Also the oil industry will lose profits and the shills won't get their kickbacks.)

Has anyone considered all these acts as domestic terrorism... Probably both domestic and international combined. We might as well tuck our head between our legs and kiss our a– goodbye. Gop and Right wingers and hate mongers

Don't be ridiculous. While it is important, that level of delivery isn't squat in the grand scheme of consumption.

Yet another post that highlights the general lack of understanding about this business. Despite what you might want to believe, oil companies don't have any appreciable control over prices. They would like to, but it is just not true. This is a commodity traded on the open market and prices are driven by investor sentiment, supply, demand, etc. And as far as the supply part of the equation is concerned, rest assured they produce as much as economically possible.

What is it with the wacky lefty loons not wanting to build nuclear power plants? Want to power your electric vehicles?? How do you think electricity is generated? Hey there just isnt enough windmills and solar panels yet to do the job and there are only so many waterfalls. I get a kick out of the loons who complain but have no realistic solutions to get from point A to point B. RWM

Plus nuclear energy is super safe and clean. Ask any environmentalist that has actual done any research as opposed to those that are uninformed and displaying a knee jerk reaction and you will see nuclear energy is our best bet!

Some questions to ask, when considering nuclear power as a viable option, are: How long does it take to build and get a new nuke plant up and running? (at least 10 years). How do we responsibly store the toxic waste byproduct? (our military puts depleted uranium in bombs and drops it on countries like Iraq and Afghanistan. Nuclear waste has a lifespan of thousands to millions of years). How secure are nuclear facilities? (nuclear facilities are potentially easy targets for terrorist attacks). Plus, while we are waiting for new nuclear plants to come online, paying people who hate us for their oil, destroying Canada's boreal forests (the tar sands) and our atmosphere, and spreading our troops and resources thin. We have the wind, solar and energy efficiency technology to supply the power we need and the production of these new technologies will create more jobs than anyone can imagine. How many jobs will building new nuclear plants create? Cities like Detroit, Cleveland, Toledo and Pittsburgh can re-tool to produce green technologies and benefit greatly in the process. The reason there is a backlash to "green" tech is the fossil fuel industry has tons of $ and wants to keep making more. That's what they are designed to do as corporations – make as much $ as possible by any means.

The notion that wind and solar by themselves are viable alternatives to fossil fuel and nuclear power generation is laughably naive. They can augment but not replace. Natural gas is the short term remedy, nuclear is the long term fix. Electric cars are a fraud without nuclear power generation.

Don't fall for the nuclear scare tactics. the problems have been solved (ask the French).

If you are a liberal and blame Sara Palin for the shooting tragedy by an insane man. You lose all credibility in political debate. And if the London bridge ever falls down, I'll blame the tragedy on all the little kids who sing the song "London Bridge is Falling Down" in kindergarten
