Jared Lee Loughner, the man accused of shooting 20 people Saturday at an Arizona political event, attended a poetry class last year at Pima County Community College, a man in the class said.
Student Don Coorough provided CNN's Special Investigations Unit with copies of two poems purportedly written by Loughner for the spring semester class. They have been transcribed below with the same spelling and line breaks as the original copies.
Meat Head
Awaking on the first day of school
Pain of a morning hang over
Attending a weight lifting class for college credit
Attempting to exercise since freshman year of high school
Crawling out of bed and walking to the shower
Warm water hitting my back
Eureka
Thoughts of being promiscuous with a female again
Putting on a old medium red tee shirt, light brown cameo shorts, and black Adidas
For breakfast a glass of water, cold pepperoni pizza, and two Advil
Bringing my Nano Ipod with heavy metal music
Taking the local bus on a overcast morning
Waiting with crack heads after their nightly binge
Bus is cheap, two dollars for a ride anywhere in the city
Sitting in back against a hard plastic seat
Staring at stop lights, brand new cars, and graffiti
Coming to a slow halt in front of the school
Entering the gym as the glowing florescent lights are humming
Next to the treadmills, putting a green foam mat on the ground
Stretching for fifteen minutes, loosening the muscles in my legs, back and arms
Cleaning the mat with anti-bacterial spray and a paper towel
Jogging for ten minutes, my heart beating, beating, beating
Pain in my right side of the last minute of twenty
Looking around, the cute women are catching my eye
Probably waiting for their hot boyfriends wandering in the locker room
All the men are in shape with their new white tank shirts, basketball short, and Nike shoes
Confusing look on my face of no idea what to do
Deciding to copy other men's routines of
Arm Curls, Leg presses, Rows, Squats, Military something's, and Isolated whatever's
65 minutes
Leaving the gym thinking
Waiting for the bus with alcoholics that are going to the bars early
Coming home for another shower
While grabbing the white towel, the eureka moment is lingering
Quick nap and lunch is on my mind
Setting the alarm one hour before getting ready for my next class
Getting into bed
Falling asleep
Dead as a dodo
On the island of Mauritius a heavy storm is leaving.
In the fields of the ancient wild forest a wild field of mushrooms is growing.
Snails and grasshoppers are ready for the warmth.
The old grass growing with lizards are jolting for crickets while snakes looking for lonely mice.
Falcons are flying for pray.
Shallow light Blue Ocean shimmering at each wave as the black clouds are rolling.
Waves are lapping.
Fisherman on the reefs are casting their poles.
In warm water a pack of clown fish are floating.
Tiger sharks are swimming free.
Steel drums beating in the distance.
The full moon slowly setting for the sun is rising.
At the local cemetery there is weeping.
The dodo is finally dieing.

they should have let him in the army, be with all the women and child killers there. just cause they are foreign doesnt mean they aren't real. think about it. ive seen way crazier demented people in the army, people who think they're playing grand theft auto and enlist just to kill. Don't even start comparing our military with this guy... True there are some twisted individuals in the military, but I know plenty of truly decent people who have a heart to defend this nation.

Don Coorough is an attention whorough. He is 45 years old and lives in an apartment, a failed musician, still going to community college with a grey beard?? Why is the media giving this guy's friggin opinion ANY airtime. It's just his opinion. It's not like he did a psychological profile and/or biography of the kid. His opinion about the killer is about as moot as my opinion of him.
If he's like most college students, he didn't even write them himself.
People who discriminate against people's appearance have some crap coming to them one day. That's one example of it. There’s no need to discriminate against unattractive people they try to be human being but you guys make discrimination every time you guys see them. Some of you guys don't understand that people make mistake and turn black without noticing. So you guys want to show discrimination and not talk to the unattractive. Now the guys will probably be happy in prison where I can talk to some mates with similar stories, instead of trying to find people in public who dislike him for his looks. The people in that school are prejudice toward the unattractive!!!! I guess since the black and white discrimination days is not too much all the attractive people want to discriminate against the unattractive people. That man was a loner in college. His classmates mention that he looked like a “creep“, so they did not want to treat the man like he belong in the school. He make a fist because he wasn’t being treated like human too. I know a bunch of people that change from drugs to be clean. Judge Greg Mathis is one and Lindsey Lohan can be one too. He received too much verbal abuse from people when he was young. All of you people who discriminate against unattractive people motivate most of these scenes lately. And the government have to step up against the discrimination towards appearance just like they do for them gay people, religious people, and disable people!! Yeah I'm ugly and I receive alot of discrimination from FIU and the public of Miami. And I know that feeling that suspect has.

and this is from a former fat kid who was made fun of all through jr high and highschool.... Judging on appearance isn't right....here we know what this kid has done... with all the media attention given to the people who commit these crimes, they need several stabs to their ego.
People commit these crimes, they're ridiculed, not protected and idolized.
Well if Laughner's aspiration was to be a published poet, he's certainly achieved that goal.
I know he will cherish the chance to bring his talents to prison, perhaps even death row. If he thought life was mundane outside prison, he should be in for a nice little surprise.

To keep them from bashing my head

With the killer, the rapist, and the junkie

I am afraid we are giving this guy too much attention. Do we really care what poetry he wrote in his community college class? Shouldn't this be left to profilers or authors of a study or book due out in five years, instead of posting it online right away?

I've got to say, I'm kinda disgusted by this, most artists would die to get the coverage we're giving this young man, I hope to god we don't turn it into "most artists would kill to get the coverage."

These things are posted because people are curious about the mind, especially that of murderer. The editor knows these things draw traffic and, at the end of the day, news is a business that must make a profit.
It's nice that he saved the taxpayers some money by shaving his head and eyebrows, he looks like he prepped himself for the electric chair, which is where this monster belongs.
