Amid Egyptian crisis, Obama meets with security team

As violence in the streets continued in Egypt, U.S. President Barack Obama convened a meeting of his national security team on Saturday, the White House said in a statement.

During the meeting, which lasted just more than an hour, Obama was updated on the situation in North Africa. He restated the U.S. focus on opposing violence, upholding universal rights, calling for restraint and supporting Egyptian efforts of political reform.

Among the meeting's participants were Vice President Joe Biden; National Security Adviser Tom Donilon; John Brennan, assistant to the president for homeland security and counterterrorism; White House Press Secretary Robert Gibbs and senior advisor David Plouffe.

If the people want Mubarak to go quick they must take out all of his & his family’s residences and as a last resort, all of the government offices as well. But DON’T burn down their own homes & businesses

I have family and friends tweeting from there..and you know what? The looters the trouble makers, the damage makers and the crazy ones are police dressed as thugs! CNN fails to report that, they've even had the people turn in these thugs, they've taken their ID away and discovered police are the ones creating damage!
of course CNN wouldn't report this...theyre reporting "people are too scared to go outside" yeah right! They are sure coming up with Catchy lines, so are the newspapers, to sell a paper, sell a story.

Biden is like a token high school kid. A press secretary (a "spin" artist), homeland security (it must be the Christians and he veterans who caused this). That advisory group could easily start WWIII. Be wishy-washy on everything (allow all points of view), nebulous utterances, blame, point, blab, stand back. That is the door for every whacko in the middle east to step in. Lift off – ignition – WWIII

Actually it's all about placating Israel We don't make a move unless it's in their best interest. Our government is here to serve at their pleasure. Look at the billions we spend for their defense. The dictators we support because they're friendly to Israel. Netanyahu pulls the strings and they dance to his tune.

Thirty years in power is way too long for any modern day leader of Egypt. That's what President Obama should have said. But he likes fence posts up his b/tt. He is a cowardly leader.
He is doing same thing he did with the Iranian protestors. We know how that turned out.

    @ Jim Brieske:

I agree with 30 years being too long for ANY modern-day elected official to serve as President in ANY country, but what's up with the fence post thing? Where'd THAT come from?

banasy. President Obama is using the same approach he used with Iran. He is staying in the middle. He is doing nothing. He could have armed the Iranian protestors and the Iranian nuclear weapon building regime would be history now and a democracy established.
I didn't say any modern day country because of Saudi Arabia. The issue is Egypt not all countries.

      He is a coward and a p/ssy.

Quite true,Jim. Obama's now scared to death of losing his puppet Mubarak in the Middle East along with all the other right-wing thugs in Washington. They may no longer get to pull the strings over there!

What scares me is that this cursed Mubarak might just ride all this out just like Czar Nicholas did in Russia back in 1905 with his infamous "October Manifesto" which was never woth the paper it was written on!

Normally I think Jim is a bit over enraged about stuff, but he's right on this. Obama is a habitual fence sitter, and I totally got the fence post comment. This isn't a domestic social issue that he can say is above his pay grade. Even if Egypt did require some stern political structure to control the masses, Mubarak should announce his resignation and hold new elections. He's 80+ years old. Retire already. Enjoy life and all that money he stole from the american taxpayer. Go lay on a beach wearing nothing but Depends.

CaptainAmerica. Frustrated about stuff. Because I am usually right so many people attack me instead of my comment content often times disregarding the subject entirely. Then I go on the defensive by calling them names and swearing. Which is the correct procedure, in The Book of Jim, regarding those who know i am right yet they choose to insult me. Ignoring my valuable opinion instead of just saying, you're right.
And sure I admit some of my ideas are out there, but guess what? They are correct otherwise I wouldn't say them. You must have vision and understanding of the future. Look at the last hundred years. Do you really believe humans will survive another hundred years? More than a few gamblers would bet against humans surviving.
I am trying to get us past the next hundred year period and most everything I write is based in some degree on accomplishing that goal.

Why is anything that goes on everywhere else in the world any of this countries bussiness?? That is besides another way or reason to take our troops to another war!!! The government of this country needs to spend more time securing this country and fixing what they F–KED UP... Our country can't even keep the drug dealing Mexican's and their trash out of this country, let alone stopping the flow of income foreingers out!!! Problem is this gov does'nt give a rats azz about it's people, they only care about the foriengors from everywhere else. This country is in SHAMBLES and they can't fix it, it's easier to take us to war so the people of this country won't dwell on the problems here at home... VERY VERY SAD!!!

so typical of someone to say that..only giving a crap of themselves. That's such an American thing to do. The mexican people belong in USA too...we have families that live on both sides of the border. Same goes for Native American people. It's okay, you're all okay in your comfortable little worlds. If there was OIL there, Obama and the army would be there in a second. Theyre fighting for basic human rights, which the mexican and native american have to do too in our OWN HOME TERRITORY! But that's ok...just plug yourself in your Jersey shore tv with your fast food and your ipod covering your eyes and ears and the world will be okay and will keep turning!

Didn't any of you read the story? Something about supporting the people's right to choose, calling for reform, nonviolence on both sides? What's wrong with that?

We should do more? But you rant incessantly about us sticking our noses where they don't belong.

Good luck to you, and when you get a new leader, give him our number.
