100-foot-long narco sub found in Colombia

The Colombian military has seized a 100-foot-long submarine capable of transporting eight tons of cocaine from Colombia to Mexico, news reports say.

The vessel was found in a jungle area in Timbiqui in southwestern Colombia on Sunday, according to a report from RTT News.

Colombian navy officials said the homemade sub had two diesel engines and sophisticated navigational equipment that would enable it to travel to Mexico while remaining up to 30 feet below the surface of the Pacific Ocean.

The vessel was set up for a crew of four but was unoccupied when found,  RTT reported. Officials estimated it would have cost $2 million to build.

The submarine is just the latest example of crafts smugglers have made to try to get their illicit cargo past law enforcement.

Last year, VBS.TV got access to the Colombian naval base where many captured smuggling vessels are taken.

Nah, I think I prefer staying around if only for the purpose of being an irritant specifically to you. I realize literacy is HUGE stretch for you (making your political views.. umm.. less than informed or well conceived- but look, I cannot in good faith deny anyone their God Given right to be a complete idiot in public, or private for that matter). Let me guess, how's Westborough Baptist's sermon this week– or is this more a "I hate me some people that use words and sentences." kind of thing?

It was probably made by Russians. A lot of them were laid off when the Russian Navy downsized.

Actually, there's plenty of pot being grown in and smuggled from Canada. Good pot, at that. Canadians used to illegally work here, when we had jobs...

that restricts users from certain occupations. And move on as long as there is a
Profit it will be available. and the cost in money and lives will be
    Staggering.

Just concerned, try using your brain. Iran is much farther away. Unless you intend the crew to resort to cannibalism and drinking urine, you'd need a lot more space for food and fresh water, not to mention fuel. Oh, and we do patrol the oceans and keep a close eye on Iran.

Wonder how much they pay to design and build these? I bet a lot more than one would make here in CA with an Aerospace engineering degree.

They should have sabotaged it so it would blow up 2 hours after going under 15 feet.

This concept is as old as recorded history. It only has to do with 1 thing; black market goods. As long as there are enough folks willing to pay for whatever is being smuggled, the smugglers WILL find a way to to smuggle it. Doesn't matter who is President or which political party runs things. As usual, the country of origin has an economy in the dumps to help prime the pumps. As a side thought...they only found this 1 sub...I wonder how many they actually built and sank? 2 million is chump change these days to the cocaine boys. I'd bet there are 20 or more on the bottom of the Pacific.

The only logical step is to give our government billions of dollars to build anti-drug submarine submarines.
