23 quakes strike central Arkansas in 36 hours

The Earth is shaking in central Arkansas.

Almost two dozen earthquakes of magnitude 2.3 or greater have struck the region since midnight Wednesday, the U.S. Geological Survey reports.

The largest of the temblors, at 4.3 magnitude, hit at 2:13 a.m. Friday. It followed a 4.0-magnitude event at 11 p.m. Thursday.

No damage has been reported from any of the quakes, all centered near the town of Greenbrier in Faulkner County, CNN affiliate KARK reports. Residents reported hearing a boom at the time of Friday morning's quake, KARK reported.

The earthquake swarm is reminiscent of a swarm that hit the area last fall. More than 500 were recorded in less than a month.

Understood. Please ammend these particular prayers and good wishes to include anyone who has died in Arkansas in the past week or so irregardless if earthquake related.

    You are a beautiful person.

      "Irregardless" is not a word.

      Merriam-Webster disagrees with you.

      Usage Discussion of IRREGARDLESS
Irregardless originated in dialectal American speech in the early 20th century. Its fairly widespread use in speech called it to the attention of usage commentators as early as 1927. The most frequently repeated remark about it is that “there is no such word.” There is such a word, however. It is still used primarily in speech, although it can be found from time to time in edited prose. Its reputation has not risen over the years, and it is still a long way from general acceptance. Use regardless instead.

Irregardless sounds stupid and is only a word in American English not the English in the rest of the world. It is only "common usage" which does not make it right and, as regardless means the same thing, is superfluous. It speaks to the destruction of the language by illiterates.

      To "Grammar Republican":
Perhaps you should rethink your name? This was taken from http://www.dictionary.com, but you will find the same information anywhere else you look...
Irregardless is considered nonstandard because of the two negative elements ir- and -less. It was probably formed on the analogy of such words as irrespective, irrelevant, and irreparable. Those who use it, including on occasion educated speakers, may do so from a desire to add emphasis. Irregardless first appeared in the early 20th century and was perhaps popularized by its use in a comic radio program of the 1930s.

Not to sound like a bibical evangelist, its very apparent throughout the world thanks to advanced media and the internet we are indeed experiencing more unrest and global catastrophes. Its the sign of the times as predictated. If you sit back and build your own event data base of global disturbances you will realize that mankind is on the brink of major changes that will forever change the world as we know it. Yes I know, you are all saying that its hog wash, well if you think that way get back to me over the next decade and see who is right.

Roy, you're sounding just like a biblical evangelist, and you've disproved your own point by saying "thanks to advanced media and the internet we are indeed experiencing more unrest and global catastrophes". The only reason you think there are more catastrophes is because of this advanced media. There are now reporters in every country in the world with access to the internet. 20 years ago, if something had happened in Communist China, for example you never would have known about it. Go proselytize somewhere else.

and you also think the worlds going to end in 2012 right?! Your being outrageous. As the other poster made clear with the advent of the internet and 24 hour news services more natural phenomenon are reported than not. Does this mean that these occurrences happen more often now than lets say 100 years ago? no. When you look for it, you will find more of it. It happens a lot with police and criminal activity. When you up enforcement in an area you catch more criminals, statistics will show crime went up but thats not the case. Crime stayed the same but we were in a position to catch it more often

Religious alarmists claim this nonsense each and every time we have a well publicized natural disaster and have for the last 1000 years. In fact, it is this very type of nonsense that CREATED the cult of Jehovah's Witnesses just before 1000 AD when the cult members were ABSOLUTELY CERTAIN that the world was about to end... So, whatever!...

This "end of times" guff goes back almost 2000 years. Sometimes it is based on natural events and sometimes it is based on the date. 500, 800, 1000, 1200...2000. The nut bags start babbling. Every indicator, signs and symbols, is present most of the time. I grew up in an "End Times" Baptist Church and was told 55 years ago that the end was nigh. I did work in university on the phenomenon because I already knew too much about it from hearing it at home and in the church. Easy credit. Mass media reports on events that would not have been of interest 50 years ago. The Internet has provided an easy way of finding and communicating with each other and thus blowing the whole thing out of proportion. They want the end to be now.

I'll not call it hog wash. Not at all. Pigeon pellets, perhaps. Meadow muffins, most certainly. Cow pies, definitely.
"Event database", uh huh. Let me guess, there were wars and rumors of wars too? Like EVERY HUMAN GENERATION FOR THE PAST 8000 YEARS?
Oooooh! There was an EARTHQUAKE! In a seismic zone too! It must be the end!
The "end times" have been predicted by people with charts, logs, ledgers, databases, etc EVER SINCE PEOPLE FIRST LEARNED HOW TO WRITE.
Dates predicted. EVERY ONE HAS BEEN WRONG. ALL. TOTALLY.
Do you want another small hint about "The Revelation"? The number of the best is 666, which corresponds to the name of Nero.
I guess that Nero is coming back from the dead, huh?

All the hype about what is happening does not give way to what will happen. The earthquake swarm may become more violent, but the location of the swarm in proximity to Little Rock concerns me. (40 miles or so north of LR) To all of those blaming fracking as the sole cause of these quakes, please stop. Solar flares may be interfering with the electro magnetic waves occuring naturally in these areas which can also cause birds to fall from the sky. That being said Fracking isn't helping anything either.

Cluster quakes has happened before in Nevada. They were heavily researched with no reasonable explanation. I believe Reno NV ended up with several quakes over 4.0M in a very short period of time. If anyone is interested one of the Science Channels did a show about the event.

hi chrissy. I dunno about that. (living in a foregn country for uncle sam to build) It's been near a decade since Iraq was destroyed and it still isn't rebuilt. Oh, the funds were made availlable, and we were even told Iraq would be paying for their own reconstruction, but it ain't done yet. Hurricane Katrina's mess still isn't cleaned up either, nor is the Gulf of mezico spill. i think they just say their gonna do it, and rarely do...anywhere.

Wow, phillip. have you been asleep? Take a look at what is going on with the Gulf oil spill, and maybe look at the response that was organized for it. Katrina was ill-organized, yes. However, new orleans tourism is up, and restaurants are opening up everywhere in the city. As for Iraq- they're also not spending the money in constructive ways. Hardly our fault.

As for Chrissy- maybe you should pay a bit more attention to what the government has actually done. You know, maybe do some research over the last few years of gov't workings instead of just taking what pundits say as god's own truth. You look more than a little ridiculous.

The only parts of New Orleans that have been fixed are the tourist areas and whatever middle or upper class damage was done. The poor are still waiting, and waiting... The Gulf is not clean and BP has been allowed to continue drilling. The judgement against Esso/Exxon has not been paid for the Valdez catastrophe. You are dreaming if you think Oil companies get the bill for their messes.

OK, let me get this– so no one is going to connect the immediate 'roll' of quakes to the full moon AND solar flare this week? there are a lot of people fully aware of what is happening in Arkansas and its not fracking....if you are reading this and you know, then ~touch the screen~ cuz people are waking up. >>>-- Long Live Life.

If you aren't sure what's you think is happening, wake up. Remember who and what you are. Our species is of Earth.

The US Navy has a contingency plan in the event that there is a quake with simalar magnitude as 1812. The map shows coastlines diminished and Florida just about gone. This is a ridge not a fault. The earths magnetic field is affected by these rumblings. Could be why birds were disorientated as well as fish....Something to think about.

Could December 22nd 2012 be real? The super volcano under yellow stone park is over due. The 2012 sun's solar storms seems like its going to be big considering that a year or so ago the sun was in its most calmest state since started measuring the sun. All due to overpopulation. It's at the root cause of every single environmental problem we have. People need to start making having no children at all or very small families of only one or two (one is best) politically correct. Fertility treatments should be outlawed, people can learn to adopt if there is something wrong with their reproductive organs.
