Enough anchovies to top much of the world’s pizza and Caesar salads have floated lifelessly to the surface in Redondo Beach, California's King Harbor, according to a local newspaper.
Officials say millions of the pungent, oily fish are covering the sea bottom in the harbor. They began rising to the surface Tuesday morning, the Daily Breeze in Torrance, outside Los Angeles, reported.
“We need to get rid of them,” Sgt. Phil Keenan of the Redondo Beach Police Department told the paper. “This is going to create a terrible pollution and public health issue if we don't.”
Fire, police and public works officials have yet to cite a definite cause, but Keenan said the fish appear to have died from lack of oxygen.
There were no red tides (oxygen-depleting algae blooms) or other obvious phenomena that could have caused the mass deaths, the paper reported.
“Yesterday, everything looked absolutely normal,” Walter Waite, who lives at the harbor, told the newspaper. “This morning when I got up, there were millions and millions of them floating everywhere.”
The temperature in Southern California is expected to climb into the 70s Tuesday, exacerbating the urgency of removing the scads of 6-inch fish scattered throughout the harbor.

Ever heard of "Dead Zones"? These are areas of the Ocean devoid of Oxygen and therefore most life. There are several off the coast of California. Usually they are close to shore, because they are caused by run-off, polution, warming temperatures etc... Bottom line, fish kills are normal sometimes, but in this case, my guess would be that somehow man was inadvertently involved.

I wouldn't put it past them, killing is killing whether it be a man or a defenseless animal, good thing you can all joke about it.
There are fish die offs occurring all over the world. Wouldn't be fair not to include your government as well. However I don't think the government(s) have much to do with this at all.
I have real problems to worry about not some dead fish. I just did the math in my head and 2 million anchovies is only roughly .0324% of the entire population.
"defenseless"... typed by a human (animal) who is part of the food chain, who also lives on the planet, who uses a computer which is powered likely be fossil fuels, likely wearing leather shoes, possibly even a watch with a leather band, ate or drank some kind of animal product for breakfast, lunch, dinner or 2nd dinner, AND, my personal favorite, believes that the government is so evil that it went out and did this on purpose. I have oodles and oodles of tinfoil that you're welcome to to build a tiny little shelter you can hide in so the satellites can't read your thoughts.
