A Radio Shack owner in Montana has upped foot traffic at his Hamilton store by offering free guns for new satellite television subscribers, according to a local paper.
Fear not, those opposed to gun ownership and those who might fail background checks. You can have free pizza instead.
The sign says it all: “Protect yourself with Dish Network. Sign up now. Get free gun.” (The real marquee has no periods, so I took a little punctuative license.)
Owner Steve Strand told the Ravalli Republic that the promotion “really, really fits the Bitterroot Valley,” while manager Fabian Levy told the newspaper that the gimmick had “been really successful.”
Strand said the promotion, which began in October, has tripled his business and lured hundreds of people curious about the sign. Only one person who “didn’t understand how it works” has reacted negatively, he said.
“We have people literally stop in to take pictures of the sign,” Levy added.
Simply sign a contract, purchase certain equipment, set up an installation date and congratulations! You could be the proud owner of a Hi-Point .380-caliber handgun or a 20-gauge shotgun from Frontier Guns & Ammo, which is just north of town.
If you don’t want a gat or can’t pass the background check (which the Republic reports is also free with the satellite TV subscription), you can still have a $50 Pizza Hut gift card.
Strand told the newspaper that other Radio Shack owners in the state were too scared to follow his lead. Even Dish Network had its doubts but agreed to the idea after months of talks with Strand, the newspaper said.
“They've never had a gun promotion before, so they're a little nervous about it,” Strand said. “It's been an uphill battle with Dish.”

This should be against the law. Dish network&Radio Shack should be boycotted for allowing this ad. It's time to show our outrage by showing the power of people standing up to people or corp. who makes sales more important than protecting a possible sale to a mentally ill or depressed person who can fake out a sales person or fake ID,so let's show the world a democracic country can show the rights of freedom by the people for the people.peacefully& not be afraid of the gov't.

I personally be from the bitteroot valley, Montana, see nothing wrong with this. You have to pass a FBI backround check before you can get you free gun. GUNS GOOD!

I live in Hamilton Montana & love our laws, yep you got it I have a gun & never go from home without it, that is my right in the state of the free people not like IL,CA,NY You know all the liberal states. Well another thing you never hear of a car jacking in Montana we don't put up with that crap at all & if you do car jack stay out of my state or you may wake up in a casket.
I wish I'd got a gun when I bought my tv, especially after reading some of these messages!

I guess no one is concerned with actual fact concerning this promotion. It is a single shot shot gun being given away. Not a pistol or rifle.
While we're at it. Check out the actual crime rate in Montana. I've lived here for 19 years having moved from the late not so great state of CA. You are much less likely to be a victim of a crime if the criminal(s) suspect you are armed. That is a fact not theory or conjecture.
The radio shack owner states that every household has guns. That is just not true. Some households have none, others have hundreds.
When I lived in CA I had my home broken into twice and the attempted theft of my car.
Up until just recently people would leave their keys in their cars on main street for hours on end with no problem. With the influx of people and their children from the metropolitan areas things have tightened up a little.
Hell most people I know still don't lock their doors.
All I can say to the city dwellers that don't want to own a gun for whatever reason is You must like living in fear.
Really? It's amazing to still hear liberals talking about the ills of gun ownership. A well behaved government should have nothing to fear from a armed citizenry. Plus, we serve as a last ditch force to repel invasion and we can hunt animals with them. Cars kill more people than guns do. Should we outlaw cars?

Most 12yr old's could probably teach you something about gun safety. It's a promotion that most of the country doesn't understand because guns are not part of their lives. Dank, I lived there for 8 years. 3 teenagers were killed in accidents with a gun, and that was in the Shelby area. Lived in your shoes and got the hell out!
The hi-point they're offering here is about a 150 dollar gun... and a helluva value at that price. It's nothing fancy, but it does work.
