Several U.N. staff killed in Afghanistan attack

Several United Nations staffers were killed in an attack in northern Afghanistan on Friday, authorities said.

The attack happened at the operations center of the U.N. Assistance Mission in Afghanistan in Mazar-e Sharif, said Dan McNorton, a U.N. spokesman. It followed a demonstration, he said.

"The situation is still confusing and we are currently working to ascertain all the facts and take care of all our staff," he said.

A regional police spokesman said eight U.N. staffers were killed.

The United Nations' special representative to Afghanistan, Staffan de Mistura, was on his way to Mazar-e Sharif to assess the situation, McNorton said.

Time to take our Men and woman and move on from this country, I say we beat them at there own game. Mesh in undercover and when the cowards decide to poke there heads out feeling safe, then we take them. Call it what you want, they are playing cheep warfare games costing family pain and suffering...lets be smarter and protect our own country and stop surpressing our own, the time is now to give the U.S. back to its people. And as for President Obama thank you for being such a disappointment as our new political puppet, your words sound great but your actions have failed. Once again time to move on. When is a real leader going to step up.

If you were in WWII, Korea, or Vietnam, you would have looked just as csraed.Have you ever been in combat? Do you know what it is like to realize that people are shooting at you and trying to kill you? The battlefield in Afghanistan is no less deadly, maybe more deadly, than the battlefield in WWII.

The pastor never went through with it and he was given a new car for being such a nice guy. There are wack jobs all over who will make up some excuse to murder. If religion didn't exist people would still be messed up.

So let me get this straight. Let's say I see someone burning an American flag and it makes me mad so I go kill someone then the people burning the flag should be charged with manslaughter?

    • Yakobi.

Sanctions never work (see North Korea, Iran, Iraq, Libya). The only solution is to forcibly drag them kicking and screaming into the 21st Century...or at least the 17th.

I see that we're going to use the Politics of Hunger again against Libya this time. Never mind tha fact that it's both inhumaine and ineffective. The right-wing thugs in Washington will stop at nothing to get what they want!!!

It was unbelievably stupid to kill those innocent people it just adds to the hatred. Religious nit wits like Terry Jones are as bad the Fundamentalist Muslims. It would have made more sense if the attack had been against Jones and his congregation not innocent people. It would suit me fine if religious fundamentalists of all stripes would kill each other and leave sane people alone.
