Isn't there a way we could give Texas back to the Mexicans. Can we just kick them out of the union & be done with them?

If the US Supreme Court, with a majority of pro death penalty (aka "state sanctioned cold blooded murder") conservatives, then this case really must be screwed up. Typical good old boy Texas.

As I remember, ONE of the TEN SUGGESTIONS was: THOU SHALL NOT KILL... I do NOT remember seeing any adjective like INNOCENT or GUILTY applied to the prohabition regarding KILLING.

Finally, I really do NOT think that it is very wise to give any STATE or GOVERNMENT the power to take a human life... just the hundrends of innocent people freed from death row by the Innocents Project over the years should be a very powerful argument aginst that.

If you look back at the Hebrew translation, actually the word that is translated killing is referring to what we call murder. Hard as it is to believe, there is a difference between killing and murder. For example, I do not believe someone who kills a man who attempts to do great harm to them or their family is a murderer. However, if you kill somebody in cold blood, you are a murderer.

A distinction without any meaningful difference; in any case, someone is DEAD!

I agree with Todd. De Sade, would you just stand there and do nothing if you could intervene with an individual doing physical or lethal harm to another, especially a loved one? If you've never worn those shoes before, you really have no right passing judgement, although I do recognize your right to opinion. However, every one of us has a "flawed" opinion until we've worn those shoes.

I will be able to the support the death penalty when some one can show me a single victim it has resurrected., and prove that no innocent individual has ever been executed.

"Ane eye for an eye, a tooth for a tooth," or in this case a death for a death, is just like Sharia law. Ask yourself if that is what you want in your state or your country. The appeals process, and the granting of a stay of execution, is precisely what makes this nation different from Sharia Law.

What message does the governemnt, the voice of it's people send when it executes a human being? "We find the killing of another to be as such the most abhorrent act; and to remedy this we will kill"

How about we send all the death row inmates to China. The Chinese can make them work and whatever money they earn can go to pay for their incarceration. The US citizens won't have to pay for their "DAYCARE" for the rest of their existence.

    1) The death penalty has been proven to not be a deterrent for criminals.
    2) The death penalty is more expensive than life in prison.
    3) Several death row inmates have been proven innocent by DNA evidence.
    4) Most of them were on death row because of inferior legal representation in the original trial.
    5) Life in prison without parole is a longer lasting punishment than being allowed an early exit from this planet.
    6) The Supreme Court has a very hardline conservative majority.
    7) Texas education is subpar, so give these commenters some leeway.

When you give "facts" it's usually a good idea to back them up with real numbers. It's easy to say "most" and "several"... Qualify those with numbers. Statistics can be modified to serve any purpose, I'd just like to know the source of your information.

You come across pompous but just full of hot air & not anything of substance.

What makes you such an expert and so sure of that? And, what makes you think that you are so much more educated and "worthy" than all the Texas commentors? Your mirror cracked at some point when you looked into it and your view on things is a bit skewed!!!

Oh, Patty,..............we'll gladly keep Texas.......our state....our home!! And, maybe the day will come when we'll be able to keep people like you out of our wonderful, beautiful state. I'm proud of our "Wild West" roots and my founding family & Comanche heritage. And, I'll happily hang on to my gun(s). I need one to kill the real, slithery rattlesnakes, and since I live on a ranch, I unfortunately have to occasionally use one to "humanely" put down an animal in extreme stress and/or dying. And, before you or anybody else gets after me, I know exactly where to place the bullit to make it a "good" shot that kills instantly!!! It hurts me to the soul to have to do this, so when I am forced to do it, I make sure I do it right!!! As well, when you read the books on how to humanely put animals down, the gun used properly is the most commonly recommended way for most animals. Life is what it is, and sometimes it really, really hurts and hard decisions must be made. You do NOT have the right to judge me or make ridiculious assumptions about my state of TX.

Texas would be in better shape if the "Christians" who live there actually read the book they claim to believe.

St Paul, The Bible does not condemn the death penalty. It would be nice if people would read it before making claims as to what it says. And please don't try to apply "Thou shalt not kill." That is a poor translation. The word used in Hebrew means the unjustified, unlawful killing (murder.) God commanded the Jews to carry out capital punishment for a number of crimes, so obviously that command was not intended to forbid it. While Christians are never commanded to kill anyone, Romans 13 among other scriptures make it clear that God authorizes governments to carry out capital punishment. For nearly 2000 years, virtually no one disputed this. Even now, virtually no actual Biblical scholars do, only people who ignorantly misapply a poor translation without reading the rest of scripture.
