The U.S. Supreme Court issued an order Tuesday morning halting the execution of Texas death row inmate Cleve Foster.
The justices issued an order granting a stay of execution for Cleve Foster about eight hours before his scheduled lethal injection.
The Gulf War veteran was convicted along with another man of the 2002 murder of Nyanuer "Mary" Pal, a Sudanese immigrant he met at a Fort Worth bar.

The death penalty doesn't repear a crime. Jail for life without parol with no possibility of contact does. It is no necessary to kill. I will recommand to make feel the crime in an isolated area for life with very minimum supplies.

Seems to me that comuting the death sentence of a convicted killer or rapist invalidates our trial by jury principles. We have a system that requires a unanimous decision by 12 jurists before a person is convicted. Sure, it's possible to convict an innocent person, but very unlikely in today's world. The laws are set up to favor the criminal and DNA tests are available now. If you do away with the death penalty for all criminals you do an injustice to all ths victims and their families. And let's be clear about this...the death penalty does prevent crime, because that criminal cannot commit another crime.
It looks like this is a job for Mr. Guillotine..Non experimental and has a 100% accuracy rate. Has a low cost, which won't have an impact on the local economy as it only requires a little bit of manpower to operate! No bullets, no misfires, no electrical blackouts, no swallowing of the tongues and no chemical mixture mixups! Mr Guillotine is the perfect execution method tried and tested for over a 500 years.

The Death Penalty is not a deterrent, it's a punishment for wrongdoing. Apparently prison is not a deterrent, either. Do you Liberal/Socialist/Fascist whiney butts want to abolish prisons? The rate of recidivism for released inmates is the same as Guantanamo. Virtually all of them do "it" again. Take responsibility, you Progressives. Punishment. The Bible does not condemn the death penalty. It would be nice if people would read it before making claims as to what it says. And please don't try to apply "Thou shalt not kill." That is a poor translation. The word used in Hebrew means the unjustified, unlawful killing (murder.) God commanded the Jews to carry out capital punishment for a number of crimes, so obviously that command was not intended to forbid it. While Christians are never commanded to kill anyone, Romans 13 among other scriptures make it clear that God authorizes governments to carry out capital punishment. For nearly 2000 years, virtually no one disputed this. Even now, virtually no actual Biblical scholars do, only people who ignorantly misapply a poor translation without reading the rest of scripture.

You're one-hundred percent right folks. There is no absolute, definitive proof that capital punishment is a deterent to crime. However, I'll give you another statistic to ponder. Capital punishment sure as hell eliminates repeat offenders-one-hundred percent. of the time, everytime!!!

You can be against the death penalty and support self defense. I'm against the death penalty, but if the lives of my family were on the line, I wouldn't hesitate to pull the trigger.
How's this for an idea. Each state sets up a dozen Supreme Court test execution methods listed in priority trumped only by any preference request by condemned. Each method remains prepared to use until condemned is pronounced dead. This will obliterate any appeal attempt based on method. Then those that oppose the death penalty can keep the condemned alive if they fund all costs to keep condemned incarcerated for life. That would include all related costs such as healthcare of any kind and any legal fees or proceedings relating to such condemned.
Death penalty opponents usually cite the "civilized" arguments on their high horse as long as someone else is paying 50K per year to keep this trash alive. With this alternative, they would then have to put their money where their mouth is.

The costs associated with executing a prisoner far exceed the cost of housing and feeding a prisoner for the remainder of their life. Every death penalty case gets an automatic appeal. This process that can take upwards of 10 years and frequently costs the courts millions of dollars. The statistics are clear your intelligence is not.
NM – I just love those with the weak argument that our justice system is "flawed and unfair" when anyone with an IQ above wine cellar temperature knows with certainty that our justice system is the least flawed and fairest of any country in the history of the planet. Virtually all the flaws and unfairness is flushed out eventually via an endless appeals process. It is rare for anyone convicted of a capital offense to be executed within 10 years of conviction. In California, it's more like 20 years. It is also rare for someone erroneously convicted and sentenced to death to actually be executed.
Furthermore, how much more are we going to spend for a perfect system? Perfection is an unattainable delusion. Additionally, money can be spent many ways to mitigate tragic loss of life. If we spend ridiculous addition funds in pursuit of legal system perfection, every additional life saved from unfair punishment means multiple tragic lives lost elsewhere will certainly occur. Does it make sense to spend money to save one tragic death when the same money could save 5 tragic deaths elsewhere? Of course not but again, most opponents of the death penalty have no clue as to who pays and how allocating scarce resources for the "best bang for buck" works.

The only reason it may cost more to execute someone is due to the endless appeals opponents of the death penalty exhaust in attempt to stop it. Even if that argument held any water, which it does not, the convicted will still pursue endless appeals to get out of the can.
