Democrats, Republicans agree on a budget deal

The Senate has passed a short-term budget deal that will keep the government funded through next Thursday. The measure was later approved by the House of Representatives.

"We have agreed to an historic amount of cuts for the remainder of this fiscal year, as well as a short-term bridge that will give us time to avoid a shutdown while we get that agreement through both houses and to the President. We will cut $78.5 billion below the President’s 2011 budget proposal, and we have reached an agreement on the policy riders. In the meantime, we will pass a short-term resolution to keep the government running through Thursday. That short-term bridge will cut the first $2 billion of the total savings," Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid and House Speaker John Boehner said in a joint statement issued after the agreement.

President Obama commended Democrats and Republicans on working together to reach a solution.

"The government will be open for business," Obama said. "That's because today, Americans of different beliefs came together again.

"In the final hours before our government would have been forced to shut down, leaders in both parties reached an agreement that will allow our small businesses to get the loans they need, our families to get the mortgages they applied for, and hundreds of thousands of Americans to show up at work and take home their paychecks on time."

I agree. Who wants to take a hit this time. To be continued. No deal was struck, it is who will be the least pi$$ed in each party for what they cut. If tax the wealthy was not on the table we know all is stunts. Cut something in the banking industry? No, all this is divergenary? tacktics. Slight of hand, get everyone at odds over abortion and they won't notice us taking more from tax payers.

How about we cut the military 75% and arm the eligible citizens. What remains of the military can protect our shores. ,

These federal bureaucrats care for nothing but their own well being. If they were serious about we the people, they would start by reducing their own over inflated pay, and doing away with their annual gauranteed pay raise ( unless of course they dicide to vote it down, like that's going to hapen ).

Heard a comment stating that 2011 will be the end of america. Government shutdown is history repeating itself. However our people are fed up with this. We have military men and women who were mentally stable sent overseas to war and come back mentally unstable from the horrors and trauma they have to live with 24-7. Post traumatic stress is a major problem now due to these wars. So the government needs to be careful who they p off. Can see retaliation in the future and its not going to be pretty. Our government need to see the value of our people as a whole and not themselves.

Why doew everything have to be about the Dems,Reps or the other parties, why can't it be simply about what the AMERICAN PEOPLE want and needs?? All of this fighting over one wants it this way the other wants it their way, just do what they all know is best for the citizens of our country, and that does not include the immigents of the other countries. Quit thinking of your own parties and do waht's best for the"AMERICAN PEOPLE"... And since Obama has'nt shown any interest in what goes on with this country instead of enjoying dinner parties, traveling all over creation on vacations and showing privalage to the blacks, well he needs to go!!! What a big FUBAR it was to put this person in the top seat.. This man needs to go back to Africa where he came from!! As far as I'm concerned no man or woman should be president unless they have served in the military of THIS COUNTRY!!

I disagree,Helen. Until we elect a President who's willing to say no to the MIC(military-industrial-complex) and a Congress who's not owned by the MIC,we'll always have bad government which will lead to the ultimate collapse of our economy. It's funny just how both the President and Congress continue to ignore the "800 lb. gorilla in the room" which is our unnecessary military spending and these three useless and unnecessary wars overseas!!!

Wonder how many government officials are veterans of our military? How many of them actually experienced going to war? Don't understand how they can so easily decide to send our military off to war.
