This tragic incident is very rare in The Netherlands. This kind of shooting is the first incident of its sort; I can't recall something like this has ever happend before. Also someone carrying an automatic weapon is very strange and illegal for sure as no one ownes a weapon.

The American view on private gun ownership seems less questionable to me today as a European.

how? Do you really think fewer of these incidents happen when more people have guns? Are you serious?

Why is everyone so concern about the numbers, as I said in a earlier post: one death is one too many.

It looks that there was not enough medical assistance and er was assitence from medical teams 30 miles away at noon. Hospitals in the area where not abble of helping of al the wounded. Wounded have be relocated, but what I hear of the injuries there will be more death. It's the second shooting in a week in the same city, where normali nothing happens. The shooting was netweeen 10 and 20 minutes long and the number of injured people are low consediring the number of people how where in the mail (over 100).

We are living in a society where government have increasing distance and mistrust from people.

And the people should equally mistrust government. Why do you think the governments want strict control of guns?

There goes the theory that strict gun control makes you safer.

acutally, you are talking nonsense. I live close to that mall and yes, Im very shocked, but its not like it happens every day, not even every decade. It is, as tragic as it is, an incident, not common daily chore. It sure wont keep me from getting my groceries there next week

Actually I am not talking non-sense. It is tragic yes, but the people have a right to defend themselves. Instead something like this happens and everyone is a victim.

Damn, I bet you weren't in the front row when they handed out active brain cells, now were you?

Check the statistics. And try to keep quiet unless you know what you're talking about.

Justen should check the facts before he speaks. This has NEVER happened in Holland before, BECAUSE of our strict gun laws.

this is our first and its probably because of the open borders in europe. Meaning that lots of guns can be carried over the border without any problem since there is no border patrol in the EU by car. So all the guns circuling in East Europe can be transported to Holland easily.

Justen, I wouldnt feel more safe in the knowledge that theres a gun behind every frontdoor. It seems more likely to use it when you have acces to it instead of using your head

Gun control only makes sense if ALL guns are taken in (except for police etc.) Without that the criminals have a free ride with their illegal guns. Not a possibility though. Guns come in over the open borders for local criminals. And yes, thsi has happened in Holland before, Just not on the same horrible scale.

No Expat, Gun control makes sense with every single gun you take of the streets.

please check the statistics on this and be amazed how US tops the list together with some 3rd world countries

Justen, poor thing. Who ever told you that gun control can prevent every gunmurder? No one is claiming that. Who ever says that is nuts. The point is that gun control can limit the amount of murders. And in the case of The Netherlands, it has proven to do just that for centuries. What proves that? This is the first incident inwhere a man shoots indiscrimantly on a crowd with a machine gun. First time, .. you understand?
