Leopards, panthers, bear, other animals saved from luggage at Thai airport

Thai police confiscated two leopards, two panthers, an Asiatic black bear, one macaque monkey and one marmoset from the luggage of a man as he tried to board a flight from Bangkok to Dubai on Friday, Thai authorities and an anti-trafficking group reported.

The animals were alive and received immediate veterinary care, according to the group, the FREELAND Foundation, which monitored the arrest.

The suspect, Noor Mahmoodr, a citizen of the United Arab Emirates, was charged with possessing endangered wildlife and smuggling endangered wildlife, said Col. Kiattipong Khaosum-arng of the Thai nature crime police. Mahmoodr was released on bail pending trial, police said.

“We believe Mahmoodr has done this several times already, and there is a network involved in this case,” Kiattipong told CNN.

He said police received a tip that the smuggling attempt would happen Friday morning and were waiting at the airport to make an arrest.

I can only assume that these were babies otherwise that would be one very large and heavy suitcase!
I am glad he was caught and I am confident that thailand will punish him suitably.

Not so good for the cops or anybody who inspects the luggage - suppose they got bitten or scratched?

Is your comment a reflection of how you really think? It's not what you eat or what you have in your possession that is going to make you successful, much less create any value in your life. It's how we as humans choose to behave. Humans have the ability to make a choice. Sadly, as in this case, too many times, there are humans who choose to make choices for all the wrong reasons. In the end, it's always the innocent (animals or humans) who pay the price.

Reminds me of a song called "The Man Who Stole a Leopard." Anyway, my face totally asploded with cute at that panther kitten. My features are now permanently stuck in the squee position.

I hope this sicko gets everything he deserves. This makes me disappointed to be a human being. I hope someone shoves his stupid ass into a suitcase and puts him on a plane.

That is one good thing about the harsh justice system in Thailand, at least I know this animal stealing low life will get what he deserves. I think all the mothers of these kidnapped babies should be given a shot. I am thinking 2 leopards, 2 panthers and a bear could take care of business.

This is just appalling. The person should not have been out on bail. Toss him in a VERY tiny jail cell for a long time, see how he likes it. Or toss him to a starving bear. I hope he is locked up, and not just fined.
