Glass staircase not dress friendly

For years, women across America have dealt with glass ceilings. But now, women in Ohio have a new problem - glass floors.

A $105 million courthouse opened in Franklin County, Ohio, on Monday, but the builders seemed to have forgotten one thing - the bottom of the stairs, reports affiliate 10TV. The staircase is made of glass.

Dress wearers need to avoid taking the stairs, according to Franklin County Judge Julie Lynch, who wears dresses under her robes almost every day.

"I wear dresses because that's my personal choice," Lynch told 10TV. "When you stand under the stairwell, you can see right up through them.”

She speculates that men, who didn’t take half the population into account, designed the stairs.

Attorney Lori Johnson was startled by the transparent stairs. She worries not only about stares, but also how many cell phones have cameras attached.

“The next thing you know, you’re on the internet,” Johnson said, according to 10TV. “It sounds like a lawsuit in the making.”

While security guards warn women about taking the stairs, it seems most are just hoping people will be mature about the situation.

"They hope people will be mature? That's not a solution," Lynch said to 10TV. "If we had mature people that didn't violate the law, we wouldn't have this building."

Let's be honest, in the 70's we guys used to crowd the bottom of the steps in the High Schools and Malls that had a second
floor, just to catch a glimpse of the panties the girls wore under the Mini & Micro-Minis. It was a fad, and it was great fun, these glass steps would have made it so much easier! LOL Stop getting bent out of shape about nothing. If i'm ever in OHIO,
i'll be sure to stop and be as MATURE as possible when i come by to check these new steps out. Hats off to the Builders!

Hope you have a daughter we can put in a dress and send up those stairs for all the "mature" men to look at. Maybe she'll even have a cell phone shot posted on the web if you're lucky.

Why is it a target against women? Men can wear dresses too.

I think every stair case should be made out of glass, that's just me though...

...and I am sure that some of them would also be offended if they saw some creepy person gawking at them from below the stairs.

Get over yourself, judge. "Men designed it..." Please!

Yes, judge ... get over it. For goodness' sake ... judges are, for the most part, just failed lawyers, swanning around in their poncy robes thinking they're god – but they're not. Concentrate on putting CRIMINALS away for what they deserve, and give VICTIMS and the INNOCENT a rest.

Off you go, judgy. Oh, and if you don't like this comment - SUE ME!!

Easy, fog the bottom of the glass with a glass fogger spray from a hardware orcraft store. Designed to fog bathroom windows, we use it in theatre all the time to make windows look frozen. On the bottom of the glass, it will last years. I pay about 9 USD a can.

I know, change the steps to mirrors, then you can follow them right up the stairs for your jollies instead of lurking below.

One way mirrors. Don't discriminate against us, I mean the, lurkers.

Couldn't they just paint the stairs? Or put some sort of carpetting or mats on them?

Frost the glass, fog the glass, install glass that distorts like glass blocks, or apply some stick-on coating that makes it more opaque or distorts the image. If you can't, or shouldn't walk there, put plants underneath or around it or a guardrail. Regardless, the architect should've thought about this problem while thinking of how cool the stairs could look.

I agree, frosting the glass would be an easy, permanant, inexpensive solution that wouldn't interefere with the architectural look of the building.

Give the women a clothing allowance so they can buy bloomers, or whatever those underpants are called that cheerleaders wear.

It's all the MEN'S fault, give me a break. I hope she is never my judge, sounds like a man hater.

I have mixed feelings about this issue. Everyone should feel comfortable enough (men and women alike) to not worry about someone looking at any part of their bodies. Who cares. It's too bad that people can be so immature that they would actually take a picture or purposefully stare or turn an unimportant thing like an open staircase into something lewd. But going by the tone of the comments I read on this page, I guess I have to agree with the judge – we're not dealing with the brightest bulbs on the tree.

I see the need for some dark limo window tinting for the bottoms of those stairs in their near future!
