Judge blocks Georgia law targeting illegal immigrants

A federal judge in Atlanta, Georgia, has blocked a controversial state law cracking down on illegal immigrants from taking effect until the broader legal issues are resolved.

Monday's order by Judge Thomas Thrash, which CNN has obtained, temporarily prevents enforcement of the law, which would penalize those who transport or harbor illegal immigrants.

The case is Georgia Latino Alliance v. Deal. The law, known as HB 87, was scheduled to go into effect Friday.

This law cannot take effect until I know who is going to mow my lawn.

The Supreme Court won't touch the lower court decision, which is based on prior precedents.

It's time for Americans to protest for a change, people should group up and band together and only that may sing a new song to our corrupt government that the Americans are "SICK AND TIRED OF THIS B.S."

You don't really address which side of the change you are on... are you against the gov. for blocking this law or are you against the gov. for trying to implement this law? :)

Why is it that I think that no matter how many illegals we get rid of, if we made all gay people straight, and ejected every Muslim in the country so many of you would just find someone else to hate and be angry at. Predjudice and ignorance know no differences. It is just there and it will be there until self awareness, and selfish replaces it. The problem is within us, not them. I wonder if there are enough itelligent people left in thiss country to realize that. I do not think a majority of you have the brains to figure that out.

Enlightened?? It isn't illegal to be gay and it isn't illegal to be Muslim. It is, however, by definition illegal to enter and remain in the USA illegally. It has nothing to do with hate.

I agree in part however at the same time our society pretty much promotes this due to the fact we look on illegals as very cheap labor. When Americans say that these illegals are taking our jobs which jobs are you talking about? Certainly NOT white collar....right?

Enlightened, you should enlighten yourself. Its not prejudiced to want to enforce existing laws that protect our country, culture, and way of life from economic ruin due to unbridled, illegal immigration and being forced to pay for those illegals when actual citizens of this society can't even get treated that well. Prejudice is saying that is ok and not wanting it stopped.

It a travesty to see that our states hove no representation and no rights at the federal level anymore. This county is on it's last leg. We're doing exactly the same thing that killed Rome. It was a good show guys, but saving everyone and getting everyone addicted to the system has trashed this country.

Most of you are missing the point about this law. Just pulling anyone over (mostly for color of skin) and asking for papers should not be legal. Heck, I spend a lot of time golfing (born in the USA 64 yrs ago) in the summer months and don't want to miss my tee time because someone thinks I have too much of a tan. If they are arrested or there is just cause then, yes, check the papers. Start with employers who hire illegals for cheap labor. Give $10,000 fine for each illegal they have on the payroll. The illegals are not forcing anyone to hire them.

The United States is not far off from a time when the states are going to ignore/challenge the Supreme Court's decisions on many issues such as immigration, corporation rights, voting, and etc. Some of these recent goofy Supreme Court decisions makes one wonder what these justices are smoking.

  13. The upside

This country was founded by immigants. Yeah by legal ones. My ancectors came through ellis island. Did they want to stand in a long line to do it? No. I'm sure it would have been easier to hop a fence and ruin someones land to get here but that's not the way things are done. And all those calling for a coup stop it. Americans worship money and won't take 1 day off of work to stand and fight. After all the payment on that lexus that you can't afford is due again. Try to take a vecation day from somone in europe and they'll burn the city down. Do it to an american and you'll be required by law to say thank you for f'ing me.
