A federal judge in Atlanta, Georgia, has blocked a controversial state law cracking down on illegal immigrants from taking effect until the broader legal issues are resolved.
Monday's order by Judge Thomas Thrash, which CNN has obtained, temporarily prevents enforcement of the law, which would penalize those who transport or harbor illegal immigrants.
The case is Georgia Latino Alliance v. Deal. The law, known as HB 87, was scheduled to go into effect Friday.

Well ... it just happen that a *judge* blocked the law finding its illegal because of huge *holes*... That is bad news, If you want a law to be enforced, then find someone that can write one *legally* and then vote it to enforce ... stop wasting my TAX $$$ ... In other words, do it right the first time and sit down, relax and stop crying ... oh! . one more thing ... if you write something, please find the $$$ to enforce it along .... Geeezzz!!!! ... "Boricuas are free to serve, but not to vote.. 65th Infantry is proof that freedom isn't free"
I agree with you, the U.S. enforces Dominican Republic not to deport the Haitians meantime they are killing robbing and raping. At in the U.S. if an immigrant commits any the crimes I just mentioned it is a different issue. The U.S. needs to mind their business and clean up their backyard.
DERR WHAT DOES "ILLEGAL" MEAN??
why is it that Mexicans can protest on our streets and everything is o.k. but when whites or Americans protest they are under threat of going to jail.
This country has lost its spine in a lot of ways these last 10 years so the only way this all will change will have to start with a new clean un corrupt Government and I really don't see that happening any time soon so this will not change.
Another words, an Illegal immigrant is allowed to break the law regardless and we the people can not do a thing about it.
It's time to go live in the woods so F.It...
Your all a bunch of slaves....and cnn is a censoring government run disinformation generator. SHEEPLE!
Judicial tyrants strike again. "Democracy", my a$$.
Another politically correct spinless Federal Judge sticking his worthless two cents into state rights.
Back to Mexico, taco belly
Good that I am leaving the US for good tomorrow, this country is doomed.
Adios, Mark!
I'm a legal green card holder and i am FOR this bill. Get all the illegals out now!
Amen. Immigrating here illegally and getting support from the government is a slap in the face of the millions of immigrants who followed our laws and did the right thing. We are a nation of immigrants, LEGAL immigrants.
blank i would bet money that you have no idea how immigration worked in the days of ellis island. there was no such thing as illegal immigration. you came you waited as little as a few hours, like today if you have money, and you were given the citizenship test and that was it. end of story. moral of story: we are a nation of immigrants from a time when immigration was simple, as it was intended to be
Why not drop off every illegal alien in front of the judge's house and see if he/she starts to have a different perspective on the issue.
Why? Do they drop them off in front of yours?
bet if mexicans were white, republicans wouldn't be so concerned with illegal immigration.
Bet if "they" weren't decimating our medical and educational system, driving down wages and consuming limited resources like energy and water no one would care about illegal immigration.
All these self-righteous immigrant haters proudly claim to be Irish descendants from a century ago who properly went through immigration... Guess what: back then immigration consisted of a basic medical exam and a few weeks quarantine. That's it! Then you just get a new name and you could go anywhere in this country.
Even back then those immigrants were accused of 'taking away American jobs.' Guess what, their hard labor built a great economy, and is one of the reasons we are number one in the world!
I wouldn't be surprised that in only 50 years we will have politicians proudly claiming to be of Mexican descent, just like so many of them right now are proud to be descended from the Irish!
Seeing as how they breed like rats I wouldn't be surprised either.
Legal is legal and then we weren't the semi-socialist welfare state we are today.
Meanwhile millions of immigrants come here legally even with all of the modern hoops and hurdles. There is simply no excuse for violating our immigrations laws and they deserve no sympathy as they slap the faces of all those immigrants who come here every year legally.
If they spoke English, paid taxes, and contributed to our society I think more people would be understanding. However, for the most part they ship the money back to Mexico where the rest of their family is. Liberals always say "yea, but they do the work Americans will not". Who cares? Our society will not suffer any major problems because we do not have someone to cut our yards or clean our houses.
@blank, millions, really, no not millions on a permanent basis
Let me get this straight - the 2 sections that are at issue have to do with knowingly transporting illegals, including aiding them in the commission of a crime. Isn't that called an "accessory" to the crime? If this law is indeed struck down, can we just see the number of cases that will be asked to be retried by ANY ONE who was convicted of being an accessory to a crime. I guess I'm just confused by what the issue with these 2 sections of this bill actually is.
Does that mean every time I see a Hispanic person, do I have to check his green card? And if i dont, do i get charged for Ading or Accessory, for leting them go? Will cab drivers be charged for not checking green cards? Do I have to ask all my friends if they are legal or not? Silly.
The CNN webdesign team should script some banjoes, playing in the background of this comment section. lol
Americans and especially college students don't have the guts the hippies had in the 60s. Today instead of opposing war, we welcome it as a means of income because we can't find a job. College students are automatically signed up in the draft that is nonexistent or they don't get a loans and grants like the Gis. They should be fighting for more manufacturing jobs in the US, Most want to be lawyers or doctors or in a service oriented field. Some graduate with other degrees only to end up in the enlisted ranks because they can not find a job.
Blue collar in America is dead. Majority of jobs available are all service oriented.
