A federal judge in Atlanta, Georgia, has blocked a controversial state law cracking down on illegal immigrants from taking effect until the broader legal issues are resolved.
Monday's order by Judge Thomas Thrash, which CNN has obtained, temporarily prevents enforcement of the law, which would penalize those who transport or harbor illegal immigrants.
The case is Georgia Latino Alliance v. Deal. The law, known as HB 87, was scheduled to go into effect Friday.

I don’t know where you live but I live in a county in Georgia that our major source of income is produce farming. We are over run with illegals who work the farms. Our law enforcement doesn’t pursue illegals; we don’t have the funds to hire that many police officers. The illegals sell drugs, drive unregistered, uninsured vehicles and a few times a year a drunk illegal kills Americans with drunk driving. Their children infest our schools and can’t speak enough English to learn so the teachers have to spend extra time with them that is taken away from our children. As for them working for little pay, think again, when you see them in the stores, they always pull out a huge wad of cash. We here are tired of illegals destroying our town, if they want to be here so bad, let them become LEGAL! We are fighting mad about the judge blocking this law and we wont take it much longer!
Also they set fires when P--Off. – like in my home town in AZ.
We need more Americans like u to stand up to these illegals.

Cindy: First off, it's the farm owners and their and related business that hire illegal aliens in order to save money by working off the books. Are these businesses owned by Americans or illegal aliens? These folks who need work go there because they know that's where they can find it. As far as wads of cash – I'll be a lot of dollar bills make up those wads. When you work off the books, all you get is cash – so no checks, no credit cards, no atm cards. Are their children illegal as well or are they citizens born in this country? As to the drug selling/vehicle accidents, do you have the facts from all incidents that prove your statements that these are all caused by illegals?
Did it occur to you that the fat cat farm operators who employ those terrible illegals might be at fault???? Probably not, it is easier to trash the people who actually work for very little.
I'm so happy this law has been turned down. So much hate towards illegal and although it's understandable that what they're doing is wrong, the hate is being forwarded to a single race "Latino". The evidence is all right here the comments everyone is writing. They were right from the start that these laws would invoke racial tensions and discrimination. Laws like this aren't obviously the way to go.
You can't deport all the illegals, and you also can't give residency to them all, but this law that GA tried is just unrealistic and would bring nothing but hate, discrimination and bigotry.

Ok cindy you can not blame immigrants for taking the farm jobs away!! Georgia has lost over $300 million dollars due to the fact that many left the fields due to this immigration law. Now there is need for over 11 thousand workers and the u.s. citizens hvnt stepped up and worked!!! This has brought our state to do drastic measures like asking people with criminal back grounds to work on the fields!! So quit blamming the illegal immigrants for doing the work that you and I dnt want to do!! Also there is more U.S. citizens the commit crimes illegal aliens and there are also more U.S. citizens in jails than Immigrants!!!!!! Thanks for posting, Cindy. Our dairy farmers in the Northeast also hire illegals rather than pay actual American citizens a decent wage. Most of the workers only speak Spanish, multiply exponentially, are continuously picked up for DWI, damage the farm equipment, and can never be found when real manual labor (unloading straw/hay and covering the silage bunks) needs to be done.

First off sfgiants, the word you were looking for is dusk. The ignorance on both sides of this issue is absolutely ridiculous. I’ve been fortunate enough to travel around the world and although you are required to have your papers at all times, it's not as if you get stopped all the time because you "look" American. Laws need to be put in place that require all people to carry their identification, but don't allow police officers to stop someone who "looks" illegal. That leaves way too much room for lawsuits regarding racial profiling. The biggest problem with this issue (like so many other issues in America) is that we have let it get so far out of hand that there is no simple, straightforward way to solve it

As long as there is a demand for cheap goods there will always be people from low income countries willing to farm and do services work. Its all about supply and demand. It's simple math, lets say that farm worker makes the minimum about 6 dlls/hr the price of a lb of apples is about 2 dlls if the farm workers were citizens and made 18 dlls/hr that would mean that the price would be about 6 dlls per lb, do the same math to all the produce you buy during the week and only affluent people would be able to afford it. It all about supply and deman.
If you read the actual ruling, it makes sense. I'm totally against illegal immigration. But this law doesn't protect people who are waiting for answers on their applicaions. There are types of immigrants that are legal, but dont have paperwork yet. The law needs to be written more clearly and then passed. This was just a bad law.

Everyone needs to stop making this issue so black and white. Is it wrong that there are illegal workers here taking jobs from Americans? Yes, but a lot of the jobs they have are jobs that many Americans think they are above performing. There is so much stupidity, ignorance, and hatred in this country. And to anyone that thinks we could just kick them all out and go on with our lives, you clearly have no idea just how much of our economy relies on this illegal labor.

Illegals in this country number roughly 11 million. Legal US citizens in this country number roughly 319 million. WHOM do you think is really responsible for "bleeding" this country dry? The REALY problem in this country is corporate greed that has gone on unchecked since 2000. You want solutions to the economic problem in the US? Then two things are needed:
1.) stop buying cheap goods produced overseas – yes, this means no more shopping at Walmart and enjoying cheap prices!
2.) political campaign finance reform – yes, this means no more heavy donations from the PACs or religious groups. Once the playing field is leveled and there is no big financial incentive to be President, Congress, Senate, then and only then will you see people with integrity and true intelligence step up to the plate!

You are incorrect. This is not trade between two nations. These are individuals breaking the law. ALL states have the right to arrest criminals and those assisting criminals. The federal government has declared that these individuals are criminals and therefore the states can go after them....

Mexicans are the first and only nationality who almost without exception could care less about America as a whole and its direction and future. They couldnt even care less about their own countrys future and thats what prompted this economic invasion. The Italian's, Chineese, Danish, and all other nationalities understood the value in learning the language and investing in their local communities instead of forcing spanish on us and wiring money back to mexico every chance they get. I used to love and respect Mexicans and now only consider them (even the "legal" ones) to be nothing more than a drain on this country. I am glad that I have dual citizenship - my grandchildren and our family are getting out of this country and going back to Europe.
