L.A. Dodgers file bankruptcy

The Los Angeles Dodgers have filed for bankruptcy protection. The move comes after Major League Baseball rejected a TV contract deal for the team.

The bankruptcy filing also comes in the wake of a bitter divorce battle between owners Frank and Jamie McCourt, who finally reached a settlement earlier this month. But Frank McCourt still needs approval of a new $3 billion television deal with Fox Sports. Baseball Commissioner Bud Selig blocked the deal with the News Corp. (NWS) unit last week, saying that he couldn't approve a deal which he described as "structured to facilitate the further diversion of Dodgers assets for the personal needs of Mr. McCourt."

This story is developing. Stay with CNN's This Just In blog for more details.

They save the paragraphs for more important topics, like tweeting inappropriate pictures.

Put a woman in charge of a man-oriented sport and this is EXACTLY what you get.

Is anybody surprised? MLB should have taken ownership away from the 2 clown owners before it had gone this far.

they need to take the team away from this guy. The dodgers lead the league in attendance figures. their payroll isnt as high as the other major market teams. No reason this team should ever be filing for bankruptcy. hopefully MLB will buy him out with some lowball bid and sell it to a more responsible owner

Buy it? Take it. The McCourts probably still owe Murdock for the team.

  10. Wow

Wow. Some of you people are amazing. Perhaps they posted a two-word story while they work on a much longer version, get more sources, etc. Some of you don't have anything better to do than complain?

Perhaps some of you geniuses should apply to CNN and see if you really can do their jobs, or just pretend to do them here.

Life just hasn't been good for the Dodgers since they moved their spring training location out of Vero Beach! That move started a very steep decline....

Other sports teams will follow suit pretty soon!! simple to figure out, not enough people are in attendance, sport figures are receiving a ridiculous amount of money as well as the team owners.

I think people should support the minor and semi-pro teams more.

Every lawyer reading this should be so so proud. Look at how successful divorce is with greedy lawyers involved. I'd say change divorce law and get the lawyers into the used car lots where they can do some good. Apologies to honest used car employees.
