Williams sisters dismissed in straight sets at Wimbledon

[Updated at 11:56 a.m. ET] Less than two hours after her sister went down in straight sets at Wimbledon, Venus Williams suffered the same fate.

Bulgaria's Tsvetana Pironkova, the tournament's No. 32 seed, beat the No. 23-seed Williams 6-2, 6-3 in the fourth-round match.

[Posted at 10:34 a.m. ET] Serena Williams is out of the Wimbledon women's singles tournament after losing in straight sets to Marion Bartoli.

Williams, the No. 7 seed, was the defending champion, having won the 2010 competition. She lost her fourth-round sets Monday 6-3, 7-6.

Bartoli, 26, of France, is the No. 9 seed. She placed fourth in last year's tournament at the All-England Tennis Club.

Bartoli was a finalist in the 2007 competition, losing to Williams' sister, Venus.

There are some really ignorant people in this world... and the fact that anybody can just pop in and make comments like this about 2 people they know from afar is unbelievable. I truly belive if the "pink" wig wearing, black women rapists, that wrote the declaration of independence had a do over, yeah your cross dressing ancestors would re-think that freedom of speech thing. Some of you should not have it, because u dont know what to do with it. Last time i checked Venus and Serena Williams have never lived in a trailer park. They have multi million dollar businesses thate employ hunderds. Yes you come on a site like this and read this filth and you dont have to wonder why this country is so jacked up. Get a life and go worry about something important. I know u hate their success but guess what. They will still have more than you, they will live better than you, drive better cars than you, have more money in their bank account & more importantly...they will always be black.....get over it!

Your words proclaim your own racist thoughts. We know what you're all about. If the FF had been in their right minds, they would have sent you all back, and they actually tried. Monroe established Monrovia and many were sent back. Lincoln considered it but after the war, the money wasn't there. The biggest historical blunder is the Achilles' Heel of black slavery in North America. You guys prove it daily.

These women are ugly, and loud. They are big, buff, and man-like. Watching one of these creatures play against a normal, feminine woman is not enjoyable, and seems almost unfair in a way...

You've made some very personal, terrible comments. If you feel no shame, then you a sad, sad case indeed.

They need weight classes in tennis (like boxing) to even the scales for these two.

Right. Because all women are frail, fragile creatures that need a Big Strong Man like you to take care of them. What are you 5'2"? Please, people. All women are Not the same. Why try to make them that way?

Really...they are monsters and their family insane? Let me see.. all the ladies wear very short skirts, so what makes the Williams sisters so different? is it because their outfits are a bit more colorful. Venus is a successful clothing designer, so why should she not show off/wear some of her creations, huh? what did teh sisters do that's so bad that you have called them monsters? Okay, so the parents are divorced, but does that make them insane. Mr. Williams has successfully trained his daughters to be GREAT tennis players and they sisters genuinely love each other and act like most sisters do. They get giddy and playful with each other. Mr. Williams to my knowledge has never been censored nor is he considered as an overbearing 'tennis father' as many others are. Their mother is often seen at their matches cheering them on. These ladies are champions on and off the court. They are successful despite not getting the big endorsements like Anna Kournakovia – who won nothing but was a favorite of the media and corporate advertisers. These two women have been the best tennis players (and only champions) for several years now and yet they are ignored. Since I cannot see anything that will cause such a negative reaction, I am inclined to believe that maybe the problem is that they are just a shade too dark for you to see the goodness in them.

Yeah they are funny in that aspect. I thought one of them was wearing a towel while playing last week.

Reading the racist comments from whites about the Williams sisters reminds me of the stories my grandfather told me about when he was in his late teens during the 1940's. Venus and Serena are getting the "Joe Louis treatment" in which back then whites cheered the fighter representing the Nazis rather than cheer for a n*****. It's happening again today with Tiger Woods and the Williams sisters, just without the Nazis in the game.

It's only a game. Really. What does all this matter in the real world? It is a mental diversion from real issues, I guess. Role models being created to create more desire to do ballooned-up glorious feats which then repeat and perpetuate the same meaningless hoopla. Face reality, folks. There's a lot that needs to be done in the world. A lot of real, very important business to conduct for the benefit of the starving and the oppressed.

This isn't about slavery. It's about the fact that the world is sick of these loud, ugly, buff, man-like creatures dominating tennis with their freakish man bodies. Grunting like wild animals, cursing like sailors, throwing tantrums, physically intimidating others. I wish they would both go away so that normal females could play the game and men could once again enjoy tennis a bit.
