Lightning strikes tree near Caylee Anthony memorial site

Hours after Casey Anthony learned on Thursday that she will leave jail next week, lightning apparently struck a tree next to a makeshift memorial in honor of her slain daughter,  Caylee.

No one saw lightning strike the pine tree on Suburban Drive in Orange County, Florida, where teddy bears and flowers mark the spot where 2-year-old Caylee's remains were found on December 11, 2008.

But long, diagonal strips of exposed wood scarred the tall pine tree, WESH reported, and bits of bark lay scattered across the road.

"It could be a sign from the angels that they aren't happy with what's happened," a visitor to the site told the Orlando Sentinel newspaper. "The rain, the lightning, the storm - it's the heavens indicating they aren't happy."

There are more lightning strikes in Florida per square mile than in any other state, according to weather.com.

A Pinellas County jury acquitted Anthony, 24, of murder and manslaughter charges Tuesday in the death of her daughter. The same jury convicted her of four charges of obstruction of justice for lying to police during the search for Caylee.

Judge Belvin Perry sentenced Anthony to four years in jail - one year for each of her four convictions - but with credit for nearly three years already served and good behavior, her release date was set for Wednesday, July 13, a court spokeswoman said.

Reading some of these comments clearly shows where are once great nation is headed. An innocent child can be thrown into the woods to rot and the rotting flesh be eaten by animals and you read these comments. Life means nothing, unless it is yours. This was once a great nation, where families took care of their own and where pride was the ultimate. Now, it is gimmie, gimmie, gimmie, no pride, and human life has no value. Great nations fall, and the US will be a casuality.

its all the same as it was... only these things were never discussed, hidden in basements of peoples homes were the insane and handicapped, molesters never caught because things like this werent talked about and reported. has nothing to do with America then and now.

I think it was a burial–not dumping. You are too sensitive to this. She wasn't found in a ditch naked. She was found with her favorite blankee and doll. This was a burial sight. Not a dumping site. You can see whoever disposed of her body took some care and thought.

When a person dies, the body has no life. The spirit has moved on. When I die, I could care less what happens to my body, because I will be dead. What the hell does it matter? Do you think Caylee had some physical reacftion or pain knowing any of this. No. She doesn't care about her body because she is dead. She is in spirit.

    • Grieving for Caylee

Casey knew where Caylee was all along because she killed her. It is an absolute crime that she got away with murder.

lol. all the "god did it" people are helping to prove the theory that their religions were created out of the primitive imagination of ancient man making up stories about natural events they did not understand. It also explains why many evangelical preachers still blame people's actions for earthquakes, hurricanes, floods, and volcanoes, and can easily get hundreds or thousands of people to believe their money making end-times doomsday prediction freak shows every few years. Central Florida is the lightning capital of the world and this is Florida's rainstorm season. But this particular lightning bolt was from the angry gods! Boo!

Hey @LEfty, if you had the choice of saving people, wouldn't you only save those that you wanted too? Why would you save people who hate you and mock your complete existence. Just asking...
