Lightning strikes tree near Caylee Anthony memorial site

Hours after Casey Anthony learned on Thursday that she will leave jail next week, lightning apparently struck a tree next to a makeshift memorial in honor of her slain daughter,  Caylee.

No one saw lightning strike the pine tree on Suburban Drive in Orange County, Florida, where teddy bears and flowers mark the spot where 2-year-old Caylee's remains were found on December 11, 2008.

But long, diagonal strips of exposed wood scarred the tall pine tree, WESH reported, and bits of bark lay scattered across the road.

"It could be a sign from the angels that they aren't happy with what's happened," a visitor to the site told the Orlando Sentinel newspaper. "The rain, the lightning, the storm - it's the heavens indicating they aren't happy."

There are more lightning strikes in Florida per square mile than in any other state, according to weather.com.

A Pinellas County jury acquitted Anthony, 24, of murder and manslaughter charges Tuesday in the death of her daughter. The same jury convicted her of four charges of obstruction of justice for lying to police during the search for Caylee.

Judge Belvin Perry sentenced Anthony to four years in jail - one year for each of her four convictions - but with credit for nearly three years already served and good behavior, her release date was set for Wednesday, July 13, a court spokeswoman said.

Love how people still say she murdered this child with lack of evidence given and aquitted of the charges hmmmm maybe none of you really live in america where everyone is given a fair trial and innocent until proven guilty! I thought that's what this country was based on! Thank god I don't live there and am a proud Canadian!

@ Drew thank god you are a Canadian because I can just see the stupid oozing out of you how can you sit there and say there was not enough evidence? What about the searches done on the home computer about how to snap necks? Or the searches on Chloroform? Explain the trace of Chloroform found in her car explain why her mother lied in court about how she did all that searching on the home computer when it was later found out she was at work at that time? Please dont sit there and bash American's because you clearly don't know anything typical Canadian.

"Not guilty" is not the same as "innocent." Just becuase the state failed to prove its case, does not mean that she is innocent of the murder.

Your an idiot if you believe she is not guilty. While found not guilty, there is no doubt she had something to do with the death of her child otherwise she would have called police as soon as the child died. One can only hope the next bolt of lightening strikes Casey. You on the other hand are a dunce!!

Even the jurors have stated that they do not believe she is innocent. Being acquitted does not equate innocence.

You should be proud to be a Canadian. I love your country. And your exactly right. She was given a fair trial and that is that. However, not knowing where your child is for 31 days, or care (a fact in the case), is unforgivable regardless and should have been and should be -– A crime.

Oh please. "Not Guilty" does NOT mean "Innocent". Shut up.

Oops, your inferiority complex is showing. It is so typical of Canadians to ty to make themselves feel superior by bagging on the US. You all have such an incredibly childish need to prove you're nothing like Americans, when in fact, we share very similar histories and cultures. Travel overseas sometimes. You all are constantly mistaken for Americans, because you're so much like us.

If God was ticked, why didn't he zap a juror or Casey Anthony? Couldn't find them? Why an innocent tree? Some days people just get really stupid. Maybe God just hates all the same people they do? How convenient.

The lightning strike was an exercise.
The big Kahuna Lightning Master up there is calibrating his aim
so he can hit the right target once she is released from jail.

    @ cj, I agree with you 100%.

With or without CNN propaganda on this trial, it's CLEAR that Casey Anthony is guilty. The "reasonable" doubt purported is completely UNreasonable and illogical. It's mind boggling to contemplate how this woman is going to be let out into society but there's actually people commenting on one of CNN's other news gems today, that a 17 year old boy should be charged with murder for accidentally hitting into an elderly woman while on his skateboard.

Yes, but the state failed to provide even a cause of death. You cannot ask a jury to send someone to the chair without proof or even a cause of death. It's what is supposed to happen in our system when the state fails at proving guilt. it sucks, but it is better than someone being convicted on someone else's emotions.

I know right? Seven people got shot in Michigan, including a child and yet we are yammering on and on about this. Reporting every single little mundane detail about it. Casey Anthony wouldn't be a celebrity if this media frenzy wasn't being reported on every single second of the day.
