Singer Amy Winehouse found dead, UK press says

Singer Amy Winehouse was found dead at her apartment in London on Saturday, the UK Press Association reported. She was 27.

The "Rehab" singer had a history of battling drugs and alcohol and recently left a British rehabilitation program that a representative said was intended to prepare her for scheduled European concerts.

But she cut short the European concert tour in Belgrade, Serbia, last month after she staggered around the stage and stumbled through several songs.

The troubled British singer was known for a stirring, soulful voice that many considered a throwback to the Motown sound.

She had a breakout year in 2008 when she won several Grammy Awards, including Record of the Year and Song of the Year for her hit “Rehab.” Her album “Back to Black” garnered Best Pop Vocal Album and Album of the Year.

But there was trouble.

Winehouse's volatile marriage to Blake Fielder-Civil took a toll  on the singer's career. The couple divorced in 2009 after a stormy two years marked by drug addiction and arrests.

Winehouse’s parents went public with their efforts to help their daughter, telling the London Telegraph in 2009 that she was on the road to recovery.

"A gradual recovery, which is good,” Winehouse’s father, Mitch, told the Telegraph. “With slight backward steps not drug backward steps, more drink backward steps if you follow my drift. I think that will be the pattern of recovery."

What a waste of $$$. All that recording and advance $ that could've gone to someone w/ real talent. The only thing this loser has in common w/ the 27club is, she was 27. She had no talent, she is no Joplin, and noone in music will miss her.

"Shame on you for saying such things when her family is mourning. She made bad decisions. Haven’t YOU??" No, I've never smoked crack and drank myself to death. Her only talent was being some sort of intl Lohan or Spears, all of whom r talentless. Hopefully Gaga is next. What terrible music, what wastes of lives. Addiction is disease- it's being lazy and weak minded.

For those of you upset over the negative posts, these people that do that probably surf the net posting their garbage everywhere. Don't let their negative outlook get to you. I feel sorry for them. As for Amy, it is always sad when someone dies at such a young age, no matter what the cause of death was. Drugs are killing young and old alike. May she rest in peace.

The problem with is life is often life itself, all of us only get one chance at this life! Amy touched many souls and I feel Amy could have gone on to do much more but has squandered what she had. In some ways I am a not sorry for her it takes discipline to know what gifts you have and how to use these gifts, I feel that Amy never fully realised the gifts that she had and like many artists never managed to control her inner self. In the end drugs always kill and the result through time is that this world loses an artistic beauty. I cannot bring blame to her door, I would just rather think and remember her achievements and her music and I am sorry that Amy gone.

Heroin is destoying many lives. It is now in pill form and kids think oh a pill it's not a needle in your arm anymore. The games children are playing are bring prescription drugs stick them in a bowl and do a handful of them. All a pusher has to do is put some heroin pills in and they are hooked. Takes one time. A man was found in a park and 3 more died this past week. This drug is now cheaper and easier to use. This is the new/old epidemic in the us making it's way into homes of school children.

I'm sorry for all of the people who loved her that she left behind, but I'm not really sorry for her as she basically lived her life off of drugs and alcohol, so my condolences to those who love her but I really can't find it in my heart to feel any sympathy for her. Pity? Yes. Sympathy? No. Does that make me heartless?

This is sad no matter who dies, I hope others learn from this death and DON'T take drugs. In the future Amy could have done great things, It's a shame whatever the reason she died from.
