Singer Amy Winehouse found dead, UK press says

Singer Amy Winehouse was found dead at her apartment in London on Saturday, the UK Press Association reported. She was 27.

The "Rehab" singer had a history of battling drugs and alcohol and recently left a British rehabilitation program that a representative said was intended to prepare her for scheduled European concerts.

But she cut short the European concert tour in Belgrade, Serbia, last month after she staggered around the stage and stumbled through several songs.

The troubled British singer was known for a stirring, soulful voice that many considered a throwback to the Motown sound.

She had a breakout year in 2008 when she won several Grammy Awards, including Record of the Year and Song of the Year for her hit “Rehab.” Her album “Back to Black” garnered Best Pop Vocal Album and Album of the Year.

But there was trouble.

Winehouse's volatile marriage to Blake Fielder-Civil took a toll  on the singer's career. The couple divorced in 2009 after a stormy two years marked by drug addiction and arrests.

Winehouse’s parents went public with their efforts to help their daughter, telling the London Telegraph in 2009 that she was on the road to recovery.

"A gradual recovery, which is good,” Winehouse’s father, Mitch, told the Telegraph. “With slight backward steps not drug backward steps, more drink backward steps if you follow my drift. I think that will be the pattern of recovery."

This is the least surprising news story of the year. Who cares. She should have been allowed to kill herself a couple of years ago. I can't believe all the people who feel sorry for her. Was she asleep on the day the rest of the world found out that being a junkie is a bad thing?? Did somebody FORCE her to become a junkie?? Nope. She gave herself exactly what she deserved.

On these kinds of subjects, I agree...
Too many use the opportunity to be cruel about the person.. Not caring that the pepole they are hurting are the ones hurting enough already.. The people who love and lost this girl..

    Tragic .
    People posting nasty comments..
No one wants to be miserable.. It's just that as yet, we dont have all the answers as to why people self destruct.. So I suppose all that can be said, is, if you feel superior because you are more comfortable with yourself and the life you live.. Just be thankful..
That should be good enough .

I beg to differ. It seems to me that a lot of people love to be miserable. Is it sad, yes. Do I feel sorry for her? No, not really.

i know what the struggle with alcohool and drugs do to you. Me personally brought me from being a top university student for being a number in the jail system. For me i got lucky and i got up and manage to come at the surface. She couldn't...life goes on

A tragic loss, I found Amy's siniging style a huge and refreshing relief after all the 'R&B (what an insult to the original 50-ies style)' Mariah Cary-like squeaking & unnecessary vibrato of current female singers. A legend remains.

I along with every person on this blog get that she did it to herself! But some1 died, people, can you not leave your tacky, inconsiderate comments for a later date!? Also, I will admit that my 1st thought was that if Lilo doesn't clean up her act, she could be next, & this should be a lesson to her! But people are actually wishing her dead, along with Kim K. Yall are pathetic!!
