In Katrina shooting death of unarmed man, cop testifies he felt life in danger

A New Orleans police officer involved in the shooting death of an unarmed, mentally disabled man after Hurricane Katrina said in court Wednesday that he saw civilians with guns on the Danziger Bridge and believed his life was in jeopardy. He is among five current or former officers facing trial in the incident.

In addition to the death of 40-year-old Ronald Madison, teenager James Brisette was also killed during the shooting. Four other civilians were wounded in the incident on September 4, 2005, nearly a week after the hurricane, when much of the city was underwater and in chaos.

The shooting happened after a dozen officers took a rental car to the bridge after receiving a radio call that police had been fired on and shooters were heading toward the Danziger Bridge, reports say.

"I knew we were going into a bad situation. I just expected to be shot at," Robert Faulcon said, according to Reuters.

He described how he felt once on the scene.

"I became paralyzed with fear, really, that we were going to be shot at," he said, according to Reuters.

Faulcon admitted, under cross examination, that he fired at civilians between him and two men he testified were armed, The New Orleans Times-Picayune reported.

Faulcon and the other officers are charged with civil rights violations related to the shooting and an alleged coverup, according to Reuters.

What a load of crap those people went to that bridge with there racist views of black people and just open fire. They just lying and trying to cover up the fact that they are racist with preconcieved views of black no matter how opposite to the facts it is. There imagination and just blantant racism was the only danger on that bridge that night was those rotten corrupt police. For years they used there badges to kill steal and get away with more crimes then the crimnals. I dont believe that man was in danger except in his imagination. Its just awful to have survived the worst storm ever to look to be rescued only to be gunned down by the people you thought where there to help I just get sad and can't even think of how horrible it must of been in those last few moments of there life just a disgusting shame.

Well black people are scary. That is just the way it is. If you see one they probably have just comitted a crime or are fixing to. It is the same way with hispanics. These people are violent criminals. They will hurt me or you and then jump around in enjoyment. Just part of thier culture.

I think it is because they were originally from africa. African cannibals are always attacking people then fixing them up for dinner nad making shrunken heads. It is just a black thing. If you arent black you wouldnt understand. I am like the police officers. I do bot want some black cannibal getting me. If you think blacks are so great go spend the night with one and see what you have for breakfast. It very well could be one of your own body parts.

Sounds like someone has been watching too many movies made by white people who love to sterotype people with darker skin. Pretty sure I hear of some white people who ate other people after a plane crash. Ooooo all white people eat other people... BEWARE! BTW people in Africa, china and Papua New Guinea make jokes about eating dogs too, because that's what poor little white people like you think too. The joke is on you.

Lies, what a bunch of lies. How can someone testify who has already been proven to have lied and perjured themselves while under oath and yes, an affidavit is a statement under oath. Bad police officers trying to cover up a mistake all the while bringing shame to honest police officers every where. Expert and eye witness testimony and raw evidence has shown NO WEAPONS, NO GUNS! Where did these weapons go, did they evaporate in to thin air? Where these magic guns? Did these guys buy these from the same guy Jack bought his magic beanstalk beans?

and without a few minutes of almost accidental video footage they were on their way to lying out of it. the Anthony case sucked all the coverage of this outrage. I could only keep up online with the local press there.

You can never be too careful. The next person you meet could be a zombie. Or a vampire. And guns wont stop these monsters. That is why i dont go outside if it is dark. Only sunlight can hurt them.

These police officers must be blind if they thought an unarmed man was holding a gun.

  11. Well......

First: If a police officer is paralyzed with fear he souldn't even be a police officer. He is a danger to himself and others. Where are our brave men in blue (or whatever they are wearing) Secondly: Someone is going to have to convince me that if a police officer has his/her gun out and ready to fire that a crimial could have a concealed weapon and draw and fire before the police coud fire his/hers. In other words don't fire before you see a weapon. "I THOUGHT I saw something shinny." doesn't work for me most guns are not shinny.
