Warren Jeffs was sentenced to life in prison on Tuesday after a jury deliberated for only 30 minutes.
The polygamist sect leader was convicted last week on two counts of sexually assaulting a 12-year-old and a 15-year-old who were his "spiritual wives." The jury sentenced him to life in prison for the first count of aggravated sexual assault and 20 years for the second count of sexual assault plus a $10,000 fine. The sentences were the maximum allowed for each count. The judge ruled that the sentences be served consecutively.
On Monday, the two sides rested their cases, without the defense calling any witnesses.
Earlier Monday, jurors weighing punishment for Jeffs heard audio recordings that prosecutors say show he had sex with underage girls and encouraged group sex.
At times difficult to hear, one of the tapes recorded sounds of two people apparently engaging in intercourse. Other recordings captured Jeffs instructing what prosecutors say were underage girls in how to please him. Girls could be heard giggling in the background.
Jeffs, the leader of the Fundamentalist Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, was charged after a 2008 raid on a ranch his church operates near Eldorado, Texas.

Does anyone know what happens with his phone calls now? When he was on trial from jail he had unlimitd use of phone service and ran his sect with thousands of minutes of phone cards he could well afford with his illegal gotten gains. What happens to that in State prison?
YES..He must submit a list of phone numbers,,a list of people he wants to mail and receive mail from,,and a list of people he wants to have visit him..The Prison MUST approve them or it won't happen...except his lawyer,,who also must be approved
That will stop now that he is convicted. He was "innocent" until proven guilty before.
Good question... shouldn't be that easy for him to teach the next sicko how to follow suit
Because of the Length of his sentence...life plus 20...He WILL be sent to a Maximum Security Prison

QUESTION : Who is keeping an eye on the the rest of his "flock" to make sure they arent doing the same thing?!?!? Is anyone really that naive to believe that abuse of minors isn't systemic?!

i hope the florida jurors are paying attention........this is how it works folks.....you find the criminal guilty and you punish them accordingly......if it walks like a duck & it acts like a duck then it's a duck!....thank you texas for not losing sight of the reality of the situation.
