Warren Jeffs sentenced to life in prison for sexual assault

Warren Jeffs was sentenced to life in prison on Tuesday after a jury deliberated for only 30 minutes.

The polygamist sect leader was convicted last week on two counts of sexually assaulting a 12-year-old and a 15-year-old who were his "spiritual wives." The jury sentenced him to life in prison for the first count of aggravated sexual assault and 20 years for the second count of sexual assault plus a $10,000 fine. The sentences were the maximum allowed for each count. The judge ruled that the sentences be served consecutively.

On Monday, the two sides rested their cases, without the defense calling any witnesses.

Earlier Monday, jurors weighing punishment for Jeffs heard audio recordings that prosecutors say show he had sex with underage girls and encouraged group sex.

At times difficult to hear, one of the tapes recorded sounds of two people apparently engaging in intercourse. Other recordings captured Jeffs instructing what prosecutors say were underage girls in how to please him. Girls could be heard giggling in the background.

Jeffs, the leader of the Fundamentalist Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, was charged after a 2008 raid on a ranch his church operates near Eldorado, Texas.

I think ALL fundies should go somewhere, jail or mental health facility, I don't care. Just get 'em off the street and away from the sane people.

@ canadian "genius", marriage with underaged girls is NOT permitted in Saudia Arabia so get your facts straight before saying something retarded . Polygamy is allowed not with minors . And also it's permitted not just in Saudia Arabia but in all of Islam . Thank you very much .

ashley you forgot about 10 year old Nujood Ali of Yemen who was forced to marry a 30 year old man who repeatedly beat and assaulted her. You also forgot 12 year old Fawziya Ammodi, also of Yemen, who died in child birth. Her husband was 24 years old. It is not polgamy, but marriage to children does happen. So please get your facts straight before you say something retarded. Thank you!

what man in his "right mind" would want to have more than 1 wife?! You can put any label you want on it to make it sound right...legal....spiritually appropriate....but it's simply not right or necessary. This is solely what I believe

In the whole world they are lunatics people not just in Texas, and people shouldn't judge people from their color it doesn't matter if you are black,Mexican or other race we are all gods children if you hate a race then. You hate god too, Because he is the one that created us we did not choose are race god did. so don't judge people for that.

You said; something, something - dark side... There is a god...

Actually, it's kinda funny. 🙂 There really isn't a god, but you can continue to believe in adult fairy tales all you want...the rest of the atheists will live very happy and free. Atheists don't "hate" god - we can't really. You can't hate something that you believe doesn't exist.

@Phil – Logically speaking, you don't have a leg to stand on.
Can you prove there is no God? Do any atheists have any evidence that there is no God?

Even atheists would have to agree that millions of very intelligent people throughout the history of the world claim to have had personal experience w/ God that they cite as evidence that God does exist.

Lack of similar experience on your part is certainly not evidence that God does not exist.

So, if you can't objectively PROVE that there is no God, then you're simply expressing an opinion, and your opinion is of no more weight than those claiming to believe.

it is impossible to prove a negative. can you prove that magic lawn fairies aren't stealing my garden tomatoes?
And there is no proof that those experiences aren't hallucinations. Until there is actual physical proof that god (and specifically your version of the christian deity exists) why should i believe your book? A book that says pi=3, the world is flat and the sun goes around the earth.
do you have proof that a supernatural being changed something physical and measurable? Because those "experiences" can also be caused by brain damage and being high
Plus everything in nature can be explained by natural processes, no god needed. So what the hell does your magic sky man do?

You think it's a real religion? He was using that as an excuse to molest children. He is not a follower of God at all if he is harming children. He can shove his so called religion right up his.......
