Shots fired at Estonia's Defense Ministry

Shots were fired Thursday at the Ministry of Defense in Tallinn, Estonia, a government spokesman told CNN.

"There has been a security incident in the Ministry of Defense, there has been a shooting and the security forces are currently involved. The situation is ongoing," Peeter Kuimet said.

A local journalist, citing police, said two hostages have been taken.

Estonia is a small country in Eastern Europe. Population is only 1.3 million. At the moment K-komando (SWAT) is on the scene. Defence minister was not in building. Local news said that hostage situation is over and one man is arrested.

Maybe the Estonians should think twice about joining NATO. The Estonians need to wise up and see NATO for what it really is, a group of states subservient to the right-wing thugs in Washington. If I were Estonian, I'd much rather take my chances with Russia, but then again, I haven't been brainwashed by a bunch of self serving, money-grubbbing, pro-Western politicians who want to make some kind of a profit!!!

    • you have got to be joking

Estonia's been a member of NATO since 2004. How can you be 7 years behind times?

Also, Estonia is too right wing, and had too many bad experiences with Russia to have anything to do with them these days.

The baltic states were among the initial chips to breaking up the ussr, i think. They were signed over to stalin by hitler at the beginning of wwii. I'm sure they've had enough of the russians.

Ruffnutt, you should think twice before writing or saying anything. Would look wiser. I'm truly glad you are not Estonian.

Estonia is part of the Northern European nations, along with Latvia & Lithuania! It's across the Baltic Sea, from Finland & I believe were able, along with it's 2 neighbors, to hold on to it's nationality despite the USSR nation usurping machine! All these nations are generally very peaceful, so this is an unusual occurence! Hope all is well & people are safe!!

  10. George Patton

If I were the Estonian Prime Minister, I'd first pull Estonia out of NATO if it ever joined and conclude an alliance with Russia, pronto! Anyone with half a brain can see just how much the right-wing thugs in Washington are getting an ever tighter grip on their NATO allies, using them to help fight their obnoxious wars such as the civil war currently going on in Libya!!!

Are you missing it, george? The estonians are quite proud to be out from under Russia's heel. I'm sure a big reason for them joining NATO was to keep it that way..

General Patton, listen to leeintulsa! Estonia has had it's fill of Russia in all its incarnations & prefer to stand on their own & as included in the Northern European Council! They will probably continue as members of the UN & NATO, as most nations in Europe does!!
