Irene hits Puerto Rico, becomes a hurricane

Irene strengthened into the first hurricane of 2011 early Monday, dumping heavy rain on Puerto Rico as it moved towards the Dominican Republic and Haiti, with Florida a distant potential target.

The storm was forecast to drop up to 10 inches of rain on much of the Caribbean, from Puerto Rico to the Turks and Caicos. In some areas, the National Hurricane Center said, 20 inches of rain could fall.

As of 7 a.m. Monday, the storm and its 75 mph sustained winds were located north of Puerto Rico, moving northwest at about 14 mph. It was expected to reach the Dominican Republic on Monday afternoon.

A hurricane warning was in effect for parts of Puerto Rico, the Dominican Republic and the central Bahamas. Tropical storm warnings were up for the U.S and British Virgin Islands, the south coast of the Dominican Republic, Haiti and the southeastern Bahamas.

The storm could cause dangerous flash floods and mudslides in the mountainous terrain of the Dominican Republic and Haiti, the Hurricane Center warned.

I'm gonna pray, dance a raindance, make a voodoo doll in the likeness of a hurricane, & do a lil' santeria with a chicken so the hurricane hurries into the gulf of Mexico! We're sweltering here in the Great State-o-Texas & could use some of that"heavy rain" about now! Also, no hurricane party is complete without an actual hurricane, it's like having a bachelorette party without a bride to be! Whether or not some of y'all are trolls, I am a blog chick & my blog tag does suggest heat!! 🙂

There goes that joker again,Mr.Rogers with his tea party lingo. He must be a fan of Sarah Palin or Michelle Bachmann. He must be an avid supporter of the right-wing thugs in Washington and that obscene war. How disgraceful!

I for one do not find the antics of Mr. Rogers one bit humorous. His right-wing agenda is destroying this country. He must be stopped!

  12. Mr. Rogers

The problem with this country is the letting up on the illegals, excessive foreign aid,too many social programs, and too many liberals in the White House. No wonder this country is losing power! We need more Anne Coulter mentality in this country. That's for sure.
