Smitten Gadhafi? Rebels find Condoleezza Rice photo book

We'd long heard that Libyan leader Moammar Gadhafi admired former U.S. Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice. In 2007, he called her "Leeza ... my darling black African woman" whom he loved "very much."

Just words? Perhaps. Or maybe, as a discovery this week suggests, he really was quite impressed.

Rebels ransacking his Bab al-Aziziya compound in Tripoli found a photo album of Rice, The New York Times reports.

A description of the album, from the Times:

"There she is, in one (picture), smiling off to the side, her flip-do accented perfectly for the camera. And there she is in another, smiling next to you-know-who during that visit to Tripoli. He is wearing a flowing white robe with purple sash and Africa pin; she looks more businesslike in a gray pinstripe suit with white pearls, her flip-do having given way to a page-boy bob."

Rice was with the Bush administration when the United States restored relations with Libya in 2005, after Gadhafi decided to abandon his pursuit of weapons of mass destruction, renounce terrorism and compensate victims of a 1986 disco bombing in Berlin and the 1988 Pan Am 103 bombing over Lockerbie, Scotland.

In a 2007 interview with Al Jazeera, Gadhafi said this about Rice:

"I support my darling, black African woman. ... I admire and am very proud of the way she leans back and gives orders to the Arab leaders. ... I love her very much. I admire her, and I'm proud of her because she's a black woman of African origin."

Gadhafi met with Rice the next year, when Rice made the first visit by a U.S. secretary of state to Libya in more than 50 years. CNN's Elise Labott reported on their meeting in a reception room at Gadhafi’s Tripoli compound:

"Gadhafi, wearing a white robe and a black fez but not his trademark dark sunglasses, shook the hands of the male members of Rice's staff but not Rice, instead offering the traditional greeting of his hand over his heart for her," Labott reported in her piece, noting that Muslim men are prohibited from shaking hands with women to whom they are not related.

Rice's office, when reached by CNN on Thursday for reaction to the photo album, said she'd reserve comment until the release of her book on November 1.

Fouad Ajami, a Middle East expert, senior fellow at the Hoover Institution and an outspoken critic of Gadhafi, provided some context regarding why Gadhafi would stress Rice's African roots and comment on her dealings with Arab leaders.

"He ... fancied himself at one point as something of an African," Ajami told CNN's Joe Johns on Thursday. "He basically said at one point that Libya is an African country, (that) it has nothing to do with the Arabs. And he dubbed himself king of the kings of Africa, and he turned his back on the Arabs."

Ajami said he wouldn't think Rice is thrilled.

"Secretary Rice is an esteemed colleague ... at Hoover and something of a friend, so I don't think she's flattered by this," Ajami told Johns on "The Situation Room."

And the best part is Fouad Ajami is EGYPTIAN. The last time I looked, Egypt is in Africa (always has been). He is a selfhating moron who is looking to America for validation. Since many American despise Africa and anything African, he tows the party line. Amazing that some people will publically express self hatred for the sake of acceptance.

Arab men love black women and that is coming from one who has lived and worked all over the world. Didn't Osama Bin Laden have a crush on Whitney Houston as well ??? They seem to have a strange fascination/respect ESPECIALLY for Western educated black women who descended from slaves. I don't know what it is and I never saw them display this behaviour to the Anglo women who I worked with, only black women so I can well believe this. I have been treated like a Queen by Arab men who have elevated me much much higher than black men in my own country. Gaddafi loves him a black woman hence why all his bodyguards and staff are all black women and I hear he treats both them and their family like royalty.

Why is this so surprising? Not everyone in the world is infected with the American beauty standard. There ARE attractive women in this world who are not Anglo and men who recognize , admire and are attracted to that beauty. Nit all of them are crazy.

First off this rumor that she is highly intelligent is very false she followed the orders of three of the most notorious criminals in US political history. Chaney, Bush, and Rumsfeld. Just the mere fact that she associated herself with and followed the ideology of these fools shows me that all the education in the world will not give you common sense. She is just like most of her generation only worried about what kind of splash she can make for herself regardless of the consequences. If she had a consicencel she would have resigned and spread the word on these thugs and helped bring down these criminals. Shame on you Ms. Rice you should have know better hey maybe the big K and her might not look so bad together if she followed Bush why not the Big K.....

Your post is dead on correct. The ME generation is so pronounced and a fact in this country now and as you say, Rice was just another of the "ME's" wanting to see how big of a splash she can make. I don't dare say that her upcoming book will be all about herself and her many conquests of stupid males of our species that she made into silly puddy in her hands!

She is intelligent or not can be determined by all the important posts she has held. Tom you ask your self where you stand in comparison to her.

Tom Bagshaw, you must be a disappointed illiterate to think that Gondi Rice isn't smart because she served in Bush's administration. Like it or not, she is the most brilliant woman America has doesn't take a dumb head like yours to be director of CHEVRON, SECRETARY OF STATE OF THE USA, PROFESSOR OF POLITICAL SCIENCE AT STANFORD UNIVERSITY and, an IMPRESSIVE PIANIST who speaks perfect ENGLISH, FRENCH, GERMAN, SPANISH and RUSSIAN...all from .a black beautiful woman from BIRMINGHAM ALABAMA....embrace the truth and the truth shall set you free, you dumb head!!!

Typical Islamic supremacists' trick of pretending love so as to force Islam into higher achelons of power in infidel countries like the USA. Had it really happened, it would have been like Dodd Fayed trying to make his way into Buckinggam palace by supposedly impregnating Princes Diana.

Why not Condolezza for President and Gadhafi for Vice President? What matters in the White House is good chemistry.

You're dead right Jim, Condi Rice would make a perfect president with no polarizing party values and ideology, but rationality and sound judgement for what's good for America......presently I see no one on the republican band wagon with her kind of ingenuity, instinct and gut, only ideological puppets like Perry and Bachmann who think the only points they need to gain are the ones Obama lost on day one merely by landing on the messy tarmac uncle GWB left behind. Its time we take American politics seriously, allowing clowns like D. Trump to run their mouths is like telling the rest of the world that in America, the size of a man's bank account is more important than his sanity!

Libya is indeed an African country and so why is making news if Gadhafi sees himself as an African? What is strange about he admiring Rice? Gadhafi is a human being on the wrong side of the political spectrum from western perspectives. That's the bottom line. Pursue the oil and isolate him but do not demonize and dehumanize him in a way that makes no sense.
