Pakistan's prime minister cancels U.S. trip to oversee flood relief efforts

Pakistani Prime Minister Yusuf Raza Gilani is calling off a visit to the United States due to floods that have killed hundreds in his country, his office said Friday.

Gilani was scheduled to address the United Nations General Assembly, but Foreign Minister Hina Rabbani Khar will go in his place, the prime minister's office said.

Instead, the prime minister will "personally supervise the ongoing rescue and relief efforts for the flood-affected areas," a government statement said.

The Pakistani disaster authority said Friday that the death toll now totaled 248 since August 10 as a result of flooding, including 52 children and 67 women. This is the second year Pakistan has suffered catastrophic flooding.

Mr. Scottish Mama we dont need to help by you , for your kind information Pakistan can be prosperous and be free of IMF tricks, just to get rid off corrupt political system. We have to stand Like Libyan's against corrupt political system, once the corruption is eliminated in Pakistan , then we will be counted as donors not as the appealing for donations.

How about helping our own people for a change. FEMA left Joplin and Tennessee never did receive aid, not sure about Alabama but I doubt they did either.

Pakistan Army helped internationa forces thats why Usama Bin Laden was killed, but i am not surprised aout your comments. you people are habitual of do more and do more. we have lost almost our sovereignity but you are not ready to accept our sacrifices.

Thanks Muhammad Ali for setting many uninformed Americans straight! I am also glad to see there are leaders on this planet who cares more about their people than a schmoozing diplomatic trip (though they have their use, too)! Here in Texas our leader made it home briefly for a Photo Op (fotographic proof that he'd been here) & then took off for his campaign again! Now he's got people defending his actions, it's the feds fault Texas is burning outta control, when all along he has dragged his feet about getting us some help! The most unforgivable act was cutting fire services budgets right in the middle of the worst of the NorthTx. fires! Y'all still want him for prez!? God Help America!!

      TRUTH, Well said..
Nothing but the truth..He is just another corrupt terrorist PAKI like many before him.Taking advantage of the American
generocity in any way possible including stealing the equipment/supplies for the American solidiers in Afghanistan.
They supported Bin Laden and provided safe haven until killed by the Americans. Why? milk the cow for more blood..
Hope the American politicians will realise their big mistakes and get otu Afghanistan and let the Pakis and the Taliban
kill each other. We can use the money at home – like Texas..
