Texas death row inmate executed

Texas death row inmate Lawrence Russell Brewer, 44, was executed by lethal execution at 7:21 p.m. ET Wednesday, the Texas Department of Criminal Justice said.

Brewer was one of three men found guilty for his involvement in the dragging death of James Byrd 13 years ago.

Brewer and two other white men kidnapped the 49-year-old black man on the night of June 7, 1998. They chained him by the ankles to the back of a pickup truck and dragged him for 3 ½ miles down a country road near Jasper, Texas. Byrd died when he was decapitated after he hit a culvert.

Prosecutors said the crime, which they described it as one of the most vicious hate crimes in U.S. history, was intended to promote Brewer's fledgling white supremacist organization.

Too bad they didn't clone him first so they could execute him in front of himself again and again and again ...

I don't believe in corporal punishment, but dogs that bite must be put down, for the good of humanity!

it's a good thing your mom never was decapitated since we all know how well she uses her mouth, which after all ,is a part of her head, and without it, she wold not have been able to provide for you and all of your in-bred siblings!!!!!

This is one example of media using interesting headlines to get attention.
    Example:
"Texas executes man in dragging death"
    or
"Texas executes man in electric chair"

Not to make light of a serious issue to some, but I was focused on the headline.

And people say racism doesn't exist. That was 1998, folks. Not 100 years ago.

They say if we woke up one morning all the same color we'd find a new way to judge by noon. The execution is just, but it's not to say justice is done. The State upheld their part. It's what lies in the heart of the people that matters now. "Be the change you seek in the world," Gandhi.

I was following this execution and the Georgia one. I 100% agree with this one...just glad Troy gets a chance. Too many doubts. If he did do it, then he'll be judged later, but if he didn't, is it worth executing an innocent man. We really have to KNOW before we "pull the switch." So tired of the "He was found guilty by a jury of his peers" statement. Humans make mistakes...

It is time for all of this to end, I am tired of having anything in common with China and Iran, but in capital punishment, apparently we do, lock them away, it will actually save the taxpayers money,

They took that long because they needed to be sure that they were the guilty ones.
I would have dragged him just as he did to that man, only for having more melanin on the skin, white trash

It took 22 years to excute this trash. What a joke of a justice system!

Well, it's done. Congratulations to Texas for bringing another murderer to justice. Does being the State with the most number of executions in the country bring any satisfaction? Next.

that took 12 years too long...good riddance to a foul person...the thought that these dudes dragged a man on concrete for 3 miles is disgusting, and once the trial was over, they should have been taken out back and put down like the dogs they are...this truly was one of the most disgusting displays of sadism ever reported...
