Texas death row inmate executed

Texas death row inmate Lawrence Russell Brewer, 44, was executed by lethal execution at 7:21 p.m. ET Wednesday, the Texas Department of Criminal Justice said.

Brewer was one of three men found guilty for his involvement in the dragging death of James Byrd 13 years ago.

Brewer and two other white men kidnapped the 49-year-old black man on the night of June 7, 1998. They chained him by the ankles to the back of a pickup truck and dragged him for 3 ½ miles down a country road near Jasper, Texas. Byrd died when he was decapitated after he hit a culvert.

Prosecutors said the crime, which they described it as one of the most vicious hate crimes in U.S. history, was intended to promote Brewer's fledgling white supremacist organization.

"Executed by lethal execution", haha! I am color-blind, I only see and animal who had a man 'drawn and quartered' and a man who MAY not be innocent. Doubt counts for stay with me.

Everyone has a right the their opinion Merry.....you wrote yours so why would you tell someone else to shut up with there's. Anyway, there is a lot of reasonable doubt in the Davis case beginning with the 7 of the 9 witnesses changing their stories. I don't believe in the death penalty because there are too many people being killed that did not commit crimes and there is just no coming back from that.

Listen Maggot...Maggie....whatever your name....before you post such an ignorant comment....I would suggest you study the law.....read a paper...or maybe even a book-of-reasoning....The point isn't so much as racism as it is justice...and the "law" states "beyond a reasonable doubt!!!"....with all the recanted testimonies and several jurors stating that if they knew than what they know now...this man would not be on death row.....what are you thinking or are you capable of thinking...I just pray that when your judgement comes....your little worthless comment will be flashed back in your face as a reminder of how cold and inconsiderate you are....oh and by the way...racism shouldn't be the issue here...so....I want to steer you to a new insight...try not to convict (murder) a man on assumption like the law was supposedly written to prevent...but...look at the evidence and if there is NO EVIDENCE to convict or MURDER him than you must SET HIM FREE...even for idiots as yourself. The officer and Troy have suffered a great injustice and believe or not so have we all! Be Blessed!

I am from East Texas, very near to where this happened and this is a perfect example of why you shouldn't believe everything you hear. Yes, a white man drug a black man. But what you don't know is that is it wasn't over a racial hate crime, the initial reason was over drugs.
In my opinion should he have still been executed? Yes, but not for racial hatred. Jasper is just known for the presence of the KKK and their involvement with them. Stereotyping is what got him.

Not guilty is not synonomous with innocent. If you are educated enough to know what that means.

Oh Hank....to reply to you is a waste of time...but...since I have a few seconds...I will just add you to my prayer list...let's see....what shall I pray for on your behalf....ummm..maybe you a brain...a heart...and courage....a brain so that you will know the difference between "not guilty" (due to insufficient evidence) and innocent...a heart so that you will feel compassion for all that are left behind during such tragedies....and courage to stand for something of value and not be such a blind follower of spiritual injustice...Be Blessed little Hank!

It's disgusting what we do to be righteous. We do not uphold our own dignity as a people who agree that murder is wrong and should be punished. The money and energy spent on convicted murderers, making them celebrities in the newspapers and on TV should be spent on the victim families to help them in any way possible with healing, counseling, and college for the surviving children. The murderer should be tucked away in prison for life, a more appropriate almost never ending punishment that doesn't collectively make us murderers as well.

  11. Someone's Opinion

It's sad that "doubt counts for a stay" in people's opinion on this case, but not the Troy Davis case.
