Death toll in California hair salon shooting rises to 8

[Updated at 7:53 p.m. ET] The death toll in Wednesday's shooting at a Southern California beauty salon rose to eight after the deaths of two people who initially were reported as critically injured, police say.

One wounded victim remains in critical condition, Seal Beach police Sgt. Steve Bowles said.

[Earlier post] Six people are dead and three are in critical condition after a shooting Wednesday at a hair salon in the Southern California community of Seal Beach, Police Sgt. Steve Bowles said.

A suspect, described as a white male, is in custody, he added.

"He was cooperative. He did not provide any resistance to the officers and he was taken into custody," Bowles said.

In addition to the people who were killed and injured, Bowles said, "there were people in the salon who were not shot."

Authorities are investigating what relationship the gunman had with anyone inside the Salon Meritage.

"We don't know if he's related or what his involvement is with the salon," Bowles said.

Blame this on guns, but if it happens overseas, blame it on "terrorists".

Nothing can ever be blamed on guns. Guns don't kill people. People who are crazy with guns kill people. And more often than not, those guns are unregistered and obtained illegally.

I can understand someone hating themselves and being so mad at the world that they want to take their own life. But how can someone come to the decision to kill innocent people? I just don't understand that. Our country is going to sh**. This kind of stuff doesn't happen in Canada, and they're just across the border. Apparently we're doing something wrong in this country. Too bad lightening doesn't strike those people who are thinking of brutal crimes before they get the chance. I hope they burn him at the stake.

This is very sad news. Acts like these are against the law of God and of man. What could lead a man to killing innocent people?

Why didn't the store owner put a 'no guns' sign at the door?
A gun free zone would have prevented this tragedy...that's why everyone feels so safe in gun free zones.

RIP to the victims – if only one had a gun...

One more insane & tragic act of mass murder. Those who still advocate gun toting & lax gun laws should be counselling the victims families.

This country is sure on a rapid downward slide financially, fiscally, politically, socially and whatever else you can come up with. In short as a world power.
We are no longer the US of A which stood for the American spirit & values. Come GOP time to rule, if one can get a whiff of what that spells from the pearls of wisdom falling from the moths of the front runners, you can be sure that the brink would pop up in sight pretty quick.
Guided by MIC, foreign lobbies, big business, politicos bereft of any political wisdom or farsightedness. Wing nuts, religious zealots of the Evangelical kind & such, we are on a path of self destruction.
Obsessed with finding demons & faults elsewhere with our trigger finger itching, embroiled in open ended wars bleeding us of lives & national treasure ( which we no longer have) but lusting for even more, where do you think we'll end up as a nation & country?
We are making a mockery of our policies on the world stage no longer enjoying the credibility, prestige & clout we once had. And yet the nation slumbers. The 'occupy Wall Street' movement is just a glimmer of hope which the powers that be would surely try to keep off the mainstream media by coming up with 'bigger' stories like the Iranian plot. What a sad state of affairs.
