Justices accept Arizona's appeal over controversial immigration law

The Supreme Court has agreed to decide whether Arizona can enforce its controversial immigration law, over the strong objections of the Obama administration.

The justices made the announcement in a brief order Monday.

Federal courts had blocked key parts of the state's Support Our Law Enforcement and Safe Neighborhoods Act, known as SB 1070. Arizona had argued illegal immigration was creating financial hardships and safety concerns for its residents and that the federal government has long failed to control the problem.

The administration has countered immigration issues are under its exclusive authority and that state "interference" would only make matters worse.

If the federal government had been doing their job then individual states would not be coming up with their own laws allowing law enforcement officers to enforce the federal laws already on the books.

The AZ law was passed because of the money from the private prison system. Hate is easy to stir up and AZ did a good job. It is as silly as the people who use to say send them back to Africa or the people that blamed Jews for the problems in Germany. NO ONE is born special not US citizens, NOT dictators NOT kings, NOT whites, NOT me NOT you!. From Pinal Co AZ and ashamed of my state.

carol and I am ashamed that we have people in this country that thinks as you. I love my country, my ancestors came here in the 1700s' My family members have fought and died for this nation. Worked hard to build this nation. We have the right to request that anyone come here, comes here only after they are invited. You know the legal way. Try to go live in Mexico without an invitation and you will be sent to prison or sometimes worse. Don't love America or its citizens – then you don't belong here anymore than the illegals.

Thank you Supreme Court. Yes each state should be allowed to form their own illegal immigration laws since the Federal Government refuse to enforce the laws of the USA. Lets fire them all. We need to clean out America of those here without an invitation.

Hopefully what AZ is doing will be done in all states. What we are allowing in this nation is never allowed in any other civilized nation. You do not go visit and just stay at someones home without first being invited. You do not go to other nations and decide you want to stay. You will be shot or arrested and most definitely deported. Lets stand up for what is right and we have to do it now. Vote for the person that will not cave into the ACLU. That group has no place in this country. They are destroying America.

Hate to tell you but migrant workers are invited. Not by you or me, but by the farmer or anyone who needs seasonal work. They work maybe 10 to 20 farms in 4 or 5 states and then return home. Until the next harvest.

To reiterate, the only reason an illegal comes to this country is for money. Now them bad guys who lure then hire those illegals are ten times worse than poor illegal dude who is trying to make a buck. It just like the narcotics trade. Drugs come from Mexico because people here buy them. The same for jobs. If there was absolutely, no how, no way for an illegal to get a job...they would not come here.

I don't know how the myth that illegals Steal jobs from Americans, continues to be perpetuated! What kind of job do y'all think an illegal can get! I'll tell you, the kind of job where you have to stand on the street corner w/ a lot of other illegals, just as desperate for work as you! Then you hope the truck comes by to take you to a construction site that's trying to save $, cut corners, by hiring illegals! They take home pennies on the dollar, even so this kind of excistance is preferable to them than what they left behind! IMHO excisting illegals should get a chance to become legal, but we also need to Enforce border laws! Stop being so lax! That is every border state's responsibility! I think the AZ law was written while the author was emotionally wrought, because this, as well as the Georgia law, puts the state under some form of martial law! If you have dark hair & a tan you could be pulled over & have to show your papers, which you don't have because you're a citizen! It's over the top!!

Please Supreme Court allow Arizona to enforce the immigration laws before you. All the border states have been flooded with illegals, and its getting worse every day. Please dont listen to some idiots that dont live down here. Vote Republican

Vote Republican? What about Newt? He wants to give them amnesty. It should not matter how long they have been here. They still broke the laws of our land and should be sent back.

Should be sent is exactly right! But who does it? When they catch them at the border they get sent back. But the ones they catch are usually just decoys for others to cross 1/4 mile away right under our noses.

What if our troopers shot a few? That is what they do in other nations because to come into a nation without proper paperwork is a crime. We are too soft on these free loaders.
