Syrian President Bashar al-Assad's forces pounded resistance strongholds Saturday, the opposition said, raising questions about what immediate effect a plan by world powers to end the violence will have in the hardest-hit areas.
At least 33 people were killed Saturday across Syria, according to the Local Coordination Committees of Syria, a network of opposition groups. Casualties included 17 people killed in the besieged city of Homs, the group said. The city at the center of resistance has endured more than three weeks of daily shelling.
Reports of renewed violence followed news Friday that dozens of countries agreed to increase pressure on al-Assad while laying groundwork for a political transition in Syria not unlike the international planning that preceded the fall of Libyan ruler Moammar Gadhafi last year.

@JIF
You need to slow down a bit.my friend. You're going to end up like you were recently. We don't want to see that again.
You should know once you get past 100 years, you can't sustain the same pace for as long.
@banasy...it never occurred to me someone would go through the archives to do something like this...but you are correct!
I agree it doesn't seem to be exactly the same. BTW, second time I've tried to post this.
@ bobcat (iah):
You're right. Today I'm resting. I work tomorrow, though.
peace is over rated... war is good for maother nature... once the humans are gone the planet can get back to normal...
Or as they said during the viet nam era
" War is good business. Invest you son."
@RUFFNUT-very special greetings to you
Ruff nutt, I agree with you. I've told my friends for years that when the earth is tired of us humans, she'll shrug her shoulders or burp or some such thing and get rid of us. Do you still have your Camaro? I haven't seen you mention it lately. I used to have a '64 El Camino that ran 11.20 in the quarter. It was just barely streetable.
I accidently hit the report abuse button. I'm on a small phone and was scrolling down the comments. I wish they'd move those buttons to the other side of the screen. At any rate please ignore every single time I hit that button its always accidental.
Thanks in advance.
That happens all the time on my "smart phone", lol...
Thanks, banasy!
I enjoy blogging, don't get me wrong. I just need to find that comfortable balance in my life. News can consume a person and I generally focus my efforts missing persons, not politics. Maybe we can meet one day, I'd enjoy that. I am a lot more fun in person than I am in black and white between.the lines.
I would like that, too.
This topic doesn't generally foster comedy...it IS a serious topic...
But laughter is good...which is why there are many more topics that are offered that let us cut loose.
And we do, believe me.
That'd be fun... the stories we could tell! Yesterday, I sent an e-mail to Nancy Grace about an 11 year-old missing child. I hope she reads it... She knows me and is a person of faith. We have that in common. But I don't like to argue religion. Aside from a few blessings here and there, I try to stay clear of arguing specifics... you know what I mean?
Oh, yes, I do, Hope...
Everybody believes in something...even if it is nothing at all..
My beliefs are my own, just as everyone else's is, IMO.
Faith, to me, is a personal thing, and it fosters ill feelings when one tells another they're going to hell because one doesn't believe EXACTLY like another does.
I steer clear of those types of situations; chances are, no minds are going to be swayed, but feelings will be hurt.
I was going to say things are looking bad in Afghanistan. Al Q is stronger than ever infiltrated in with the personnel we trained and NATO forces have been targetted.
Can't be a good thing for Syria.
Are you stalking ME, Doc?
@doc, you are a crackpot. I might venture a guess as to who you really are.
Hi, dazzle.
The more I see of him, the more convinced that he is the Doc who was here last year....before your time.
Hi, General.
I hope you are feeling better.
I agree. But some people have been thru hell, like depression, and deserve our understanding and patience... something I lack in character. The wheels turn slowly in government and policy making. Maybe.patience is a lesson I need to learn. There's a reason for everything.
I've enjoyed this time spent with you and appreciate your kindness.
We'll do it again...
Hope
Hope:
You mean like a a mother living through her son's suicide?
Yeah.
Been there.
Done that.
I hope we may talk again soon, also.
Best,
Banasy

General:
Thank you for the complement. Respect is a rare thing to find on a blogging board. I"m truly touched.
And Gung Ho:
I've always considered you a friend, even tho I never came right out and said it. I trust your judgement of character and am grateful that you have taken the time to show me the ropes. It's not easy being the new kid on the block. Thanks again...
All of you,
Hope
