Andrew Breitbart, well-known conservative blogger, dead at 43

Andrew Breitbart, a well-known conservative blogger, has died, his attorney confirmed Thursday. He was 43.

Breitbart was also known as a pundit on conservative television shows and got his start helping to run the original right-wing online media behemoth, the Drudge Report, then started his own website.

Breitbart was the first to post the infamous Twitter photos of U.S. Rep Anthony Weiner last year, in which the congressman appeared barechested and in his underpants. Weiner eventually stepped down amid the scandal.

An In Memoriam post on his website breitbart.tv said that it was with a "terrible feeling of pain and loss" that they announces his death.

"Andrew passed away unexpectedly from natural causes shortly after midnight this morning in Los Angeles," the post said. "We have lost a husband, a father, a son, a brother, a dear friend, a patriot and a happy warrior. Andrew lived boldly, so that we more timid souls would dare to live freely and fully, and fight for the fragile liberty he showed us how to love."

According to the post, in a new conclusion to one of his books, he wrote about how much he loved his job and fighting for what he believed in.

Andrew recently wrote a new conclusion to his book, Righteous Indignation:

"Andrew is at rest, yet the happy warrior lives on, in each of us," the post stated.

Like too many on the right these days, he thought his ideology trumped reality. No over generalization, outright lie, or deception was going too far for the cause, in his mind. He ruined the careers of innocent people through deception and lies in the hopes of making political hay. If anything, he serves as a warning as to how blind ambition can destroy.

Well, the livlihoods of the citizens who worked at acorn were ruined by the PR backlash of that doctored videotape. Andy knew that this was a hoax. But it was too juicy a lie to tell the whole story. It was disgraceful. How about the other doctored, incomplete out of context video tape that ended the employment of Shirley Sherrod. Andy knew that this was doctored and put it on the air to smear this woman. When the truth came out, he lost much of his credibility with everyone but his nuttiest followers and ms. sherrod was offered her job back. I left him at that point as well.

The truth is the reactionary God Reagan negotiated with the Iranian Ayatollahs to win his election. And when he won with their help, he gave them missiles. Your propaganda is laughable.

I am a proud democrat. I am more democrat than the President, but I won't celebrate the death of another human being. C'mom guys!!!! We might disagree with each other, but there is no reason to feel happy because a conservative has died. I know that many conservatives celebrated when Ted Kennedy died, but that is what makes us different from conservatives. WE HAVE A HEART. Let us be different from them. Don't say bad things about Breitbart. Let's teach conservatives a lesson. Let's show them that we have feelings and that democrats have class. Let's show them that we don't yell LET HIM DIE!!! when a human being cannot afford health care. We are democrats; we have compassion. We are better than they are, so let's be respectful. Lets teach them a lesson.

That's nice of you to call for a bit of respect. Sadly, the comments you see here from liberals encapsulate their normal feelings.

I like your post – I DO think it's important to show respect for one another.

However, I reject your assertion that Democrats have more "compassion" for people simply because they support STATE-MANDATED health insurance or other STATE-MANDATED social services. Conservatives, libertarians and even anarchists believe that people can be cared for (in many case better cared for) WITHOUT state interference. You may or may not agree with that – but it's a legitimate perspective.

Democrats and liberals do NOT have a monopoly on compassion.

I didn't hate the man but I thought that he was a disgraceful opportunist who would do anything to get content for his site. No one was going to mistake andrew for a journalist. And ultimately, his audience is just as at fault for his antics because they drink it up like mother's milk. Rush is the same. These are not friends of america. They are vultures picking at the flesh of our once great country, all the while waving the flag as if they cared about america. Well they do, their america, not the whole. Not the union. RIP.

You are so very right, Fonz. Of course, these little, little posters will not stop being hateful, because they are safely tucked away behind a computer somewhere where no one can find them.
The hatred that spews out of peoples' mouths is absolutely sickening.

Here's a challenge for you. Did Breitbart ever publicly dance on the grave of someone else or deathwish another person?

This guy had to be on coke. Just look at the crazy look in his eyes and the way he would behave, not to mention the fact that his face and nose always looked red and sore.

It's saddening to see some individuals celebrating this man's death. As a blogger and commentator, I did NOT respect the views of Andrew Beirtbart – but as a man of conviction and a person who exercised his right to freedom of speech and expression, for that I greatly respected Mr. Beirtbart.

May God rest his soul – he was taken too early, and I sincerely hope you all will have it in your heart to take a moment and think about the mourning family and friends, rather than your political bent.

Thank you for your comment. Maybe it will discourage the nut jobs and miscreants that troll this site! I can never understand why people post such hateful comments after an article. There is no justification for it, no matter one's political or religious beliefs.

Yeah, I agree. It's sad how willing people are to forget our shared humanity. That even if we are physically repulsed by someone's views and actions (as I often was by the actions of Mr. Breitbart) they still loved and were loved by somebody.
